Default 468 Stroker Build

A little about my engine build. I have a xx 400 block that I bought as a 461. I blew 2 connecting rods back in april of 2014. I bored it .060 over and put in a fully forged rotating assembly. Had the engine professionally painted in a 77-78 engine blue. Bought a Griffen aluminum radiator with dual fans. Flow Kooler high flow aluminum water pump. Had my Doug's longtube headers and E intake ceramic coated. bought a set of 85CC KRE aluminum D-port heads that are with Jim Lehart at CVMS and should be done next week. Looking to put down 500+ at the rear wheels and very excited to get my heads back. Any questions or comments are welcome. Going into a 72 Lemans.

"Looking to put down 500+ at the rear wheels and very excited to get my heads back "

In addition to the question of the port work I'm curious as to what cam you have in mind to obtain 500 hp on a chassis dyno ?

http://www.sdsefi.com/techdyno.htm

And what intake is in use ?

From the 'race' section....

In 2006 or so my 474 with KRE "310" d ports at 11 to 1 (ran pump gas 92 octane, the chambers are that good) and a mid size solid roller (.660 268/272 at .050) made over 600 hp @ 6200 on the engine DYNO and over 500 to he wheels. 850 carb and victor.

My previous street combo with a 4.210 stroke and 313 cfm Edelbrock heads and a lousy 9.7 compression made right at 600 hp at 6000 rpm on the dyno with a XE solid roller cam using 254 degrees intake duration, Victor intake and a modified HP950 carb. With the Performer RPM intake it made 580 hp at 5800 rpm. Never put the car on a chassis dyno, wish I had though.

The only reason I say that is because Jim is setting me up with a same setup he had in a 461 that put those numbers down. Jim is porting my heads, building them, port matching my performer intake, and setting me up with an Comp XR288HR cam. In the end when I do dyno it, does it matter what the number is?....no. I loved it as a 461 with iron heads, more power will make me more happy.

I'm using a quick fuel 850, Doug's D-port longtubes(ceramic coated), Edelbrock performer rpm, I sent Jim a bare set of 85CC KRE aluminum D-port heads to build, and fully forged bottom end.

So I have since discussed my build further and found out a disconnection on my behalf. I was was believing something that I'm not exactly sure where it came from but none the less I will still love this engine cause I loved it before.

Sounds like a 500 hp plus at the crank ..nothing wrong with that.Your doing it the right way having the heads setup to the cam.Make sure you have a good fuel system, good flowing exhaust..manual or automatic? If automatic..a good quality convertor is a must..... Or all the time and expense of a great engine build can go the way of slippage in the transmission.

Jim told me to get a 2800 stall with a tight flash so that's what I went out and got. Although I'm planning on making the switch to a tremec 600 down the road.

Talked to Jim yesterday and he said that the heads should be done today. He was assembling them! Said he would send some pics so I can't wait to see them and will post once I get them!

Try resizing the picture to it's smallest size.

It's not the image size it's the poor internet quality on this ship.

Stopped by the shop to see the motor and car yesterday. Still need to get the accessories on and dropped into the car. Looks like it is going in this week and ready to fire by Thursday hopefully.

+2, head flow is unknown, but not enough cam for 600hp at the crank and 500hp at the wheels, but it will still be a strong running engine....Cliff

Yes, going to be very happy with it. Jim said I should be around 525-550 at the crank. Can't remember off the top of my head the flow.

The engine is painted Gulfmist Aqua. Is a 74 exterior color. Looks great with the aluminum and chrome and will shine in the flat black engine bay.
