Looking for ideas
Looking for ideas on how people are painting- positioning their rear 70 trunk spoilers for final color painting. Are you taping it off and doing the underside first, then remasking and doing the top while setting it on a folding work stand ? This is how I've been priming and sanding it ,just doing the bottom- let it flash and flip it, but not sure how to final paint it.
Thanks, John. |

John, when I’ve painted cars with rear spoilers, I’ve made a stand out of 1/2” square steel tube and made it tall enough so I could get good paint gun movement under the spoiler. I also had feet on the stand to clamp onto horses to help eliminate a incident that could happen. Same as sport mirrors as well, all in car position ... Mike

I didn't think to take any better pics of the stand I made, but the concept is the same as what iceman411 stated.
I made this out of 2x4's and screwed some 2x2's at an angle that the wing sat on. The angled 2x2's have 5/16" holes drilled for the wing studs to sit in, and were tight enough to the studs that the wing was secure. I adjusted the angle until I thought it was correct to be able to paint top and bottom at the same time.

That works!
What a great idea, and even better for paint control being able to easily see the "bottom" when turned upside down! Nice job!
