Horn components
I just recently picked up a Sport wood steering wheel for my 66 GTO, can I use the internal components of my Deluxe Wheel in the wood wheel?

I can't speak for the 67 specifically but it has the same Deluxe wheel as the 68. I changed mine out for a 69 sport wheel and I did have to buy some parts for the horn button.
The reason you can't use your original stuff is because the horn contact is integral to the 67 steering wheel because the buttons are out on the spokes. In other words, it's wired into the steering wheel. The sport wheel gets a contact/combination spring thingy that slides down into a hole in the wheel and is activated by the horn button. Check the Ames catalog and you'll see what I'm talking about. .

IIRC it all can be used with the sport wheel.
I don't recall not being able to when I installed this super low-mile original SPORT WHEEL in my '66 many years ago.

Interesting. My Deluxe wheel has two wires that pigtail to a spring loaded contact buried in the hub. Each wire runs up inside one of the spokes to the buttons. My sport wheel has a single spring loaded pin that is in the hub under the button.
I guess a picture would be better... Sent from my moto g stylus (2021) using Tapatalk
