Default 65 Gauge Cluster Grounding

What is used to ground the gauge cluster on a 65? Traced some issues to the cluster not be grounded. Wire or strap that grounds it? thanks...

Default Gauge Cluster Ground Wire to Brake Pedal Support

The factory ground is weak and should be supplemented with an additional attached ground wire (or 2). The stock ground is via one of the metal bulb containers. In the car I worked on last week it was part of the lime green wire (hi-beam indicator). There is a spot welded tab on the side of the metal can and that wire (black) runs into the tape bundle. After a short run it breaks out of the tape and ends in a ring loop. You bolt that loop into the thick metal which is part of the brake/clutch pedal support.

Whenever I work on one of these cars I always run an extra ground wire. A good place to add one is the lower threaded stud which is part of the fuel gauge. It takes a 6-32 nut. I bolt it to the same place under the dash, the brake pedal support. That takes a self-tapping sheet metal screw that has a hex head, use a 5/16" wrench.

Put a new star washer in-between the ring end and the metal.

Pete that is good stuff! Thanks for the heads up and diagram.

I have alligator jumpers from the lower fuel gauge stud to dash ground right now and everything works.....including the fuel gauge now. Thanks again.
