Question which is top on thermostat

ooops, forgot this one. Does the spring go up or down on the thermostat in the manifold??? Its a 160 deg stant. Other question is should I gut the termost.; never had any real temp issues, just the typical in heavy traffic over 100 degs, sure it heats up. thanks. Ill also check some old posts.

I though so,,, thank you. After reading some posts about temps,,, I may gut the thermostat.

I usually drill a small hole in the base of it to help bleed out the air anytime i have to drain the coolant

The Milodon is a pretty nice, high flow unit. I like the high-flow types and I usually stick in a pan of boiling water so I can confirm that it works.

Default Good post on thermostat types

See "johnsma22" post #6 re Balanced Sleeve (the Milodon mentioned below) and the standard Reverse Poppet thermostat. Good pic (which I saved) showing what each one looks like:
