I put a 4 speed tranny in my 64 instead of the automatic that was in it. How do I get the back up lights to work? Is there some different linkage that I will need?

they sell a switch either the factory GM one or Hurst sells one that attaches to the shifter base by the linkage. It is real simple it has a hook up for two wires when you put the linkage into reverse the lever goes back and pushes the switch to turn the lights on.

The original switch for the 64 GTO Back-up lights was a "Rotary" type switch where the reverse lever pulled a metal "link" (from the lever to the switch). The switch was activated when the lever rotated turning ON the lights.
The "Push Button" deals might actually work better as the original switches were exposed to a lot of road grime. Most push button deals are somewhat sealed. Good luck with your project. Tom Vaught
