Not sure how to make the proper connections. Anyone have a drawing with an external regulator? I also have a few questions on using part of the old wiring.
1. Is it okay to pickup 12 volts from the aft side of the amp meter. Batt pwr on the old gen regulator.
2. Do you need to use a diode in the field or the relay wires to the gen from the regulator.
3. The # 3 wire is pwr to the regulator should that come from the ignition switch.

1. I would think it is OK to get the 12 volt from the amp meter.
2. Don't think you would need the diode when using a external regulator.
3. I would run that wire from same place you run the 12 volt to BAT connection on alternator?

Just saw your other thread.
you need the #4 connector on regulator to be the switched power connection?

The drawing that’s attached is the one I used. I hooked everything as per the drawing. I didn’t hook up the number 4 wire because I don’t have an indicator light.
Everything seems like it’s working battery is charging amp meter is indicating charging.
The problem I’m having is when the car is not running the alt and voltage regulator is still powered and the regulator and alt is getting hot. Discounting the battery negative I get a spark like something is powered.
Do you think the number 4 wire needs to be hookup. I do have the number 3 wire attached to the hot batt. Per the drawing

Okay thanks just saw your other reply. Last question what resister do I need to use.

Not sure on the resistance wire, it's for the accessory connection of the ign. switch. Probably because the alternator isn't running when in that position, it makes the light come on?

Are you using a regulator made for the alternator?
(not the one for the generator)

Yes using alt reg not the gen reg.
