WaterWetter???
For a street car is it best to mix waterwetter with distilled water or with a 50/50 mix of distilled and antifreeze?
Thanks, Paul |

Since you live in Florida I would only use around 20 % antifreeze or maybe none at all with the water wetter. Antifreeze does not cool as good as water. The less you use the cooler you motor will run.

Florida here too. Distilled water with the wetter. Was good for 7 degrees over just water.

I typically run AT LEAST 50/50; and more likely 70/30 antifreeze to water. Gets cold here, but still hot in the summer. |

I totally agree Schurkey. My combo never ran hot even one time, then after a bearing failure and rebuild. Vola.... overheating problems. Only happens for me with a lot of idling during events that have a ton of traffic, but does happen. SO the 7 degrees was a welcom site. But still didnt fix the root of the problem.

It might get hot in the summer there but not 120 like we can get here in Phx. What I stated is a known and documented fact that Antifreeze does not transfer heat as well as water. Bring your classic car to Phoenix in the summer and drive it around with the AC on. Then tell us how well 70/30 mix does.

My son got a job in the heating and cooling dept. at Chrysler. After 4 days calls and says Your right about anti freeze making your car run hotter.

YES, water transfers heat better than glycol anti-freeze. This is not in dispute. NO, having a relatively high glycol concentration DOES NOT make your car run noticeably hotter IF THE COOLING SYSTEM HAS ENOUGH HEAT REJECTION CAPACITY, and the engine tune is correct. Playing games with the glycol percentage in order to "fix" an over-temperature condition is a POOR CRUTCH for a genuine problem. Fix the real problem, and the glycol concentration is practically immaterial. If the only thing standing between an engine at proper operating temperature and over-temperature is the glycol percentage, THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE WRONG. Examples include, but are not limited to "defective radiator", "radiator too small for the BTU rejection needs of the engine", "too little cooling fan", "incorrect water-pump pulley ratio", "inefficient water-pump impeller", "missing air ducting such as fan shrouds or air dams", "retarded ignition timing", "lean fuel mixture", or "too many bugs in the A/C condenser fins". Could not have said it better. Soon as I hear Purple ice or water wetter, I think somthing is wrong.

Does block filler make the engine run cooler? Not sure what does exactly.
