Firestone Wide Ovals FR or GR for 69' Goat?
happy spring, friends ..
Coker rep told me their Firestone FR70s are correct tire for a 69' GTO. Poking around I'm reading a lot of guy's specifically saying the GR70s are correct. My PHS reads " G70 x 14 RL FG" but these were Goodyear's yes? Besides RWL, which I realize wasn't offered on a 69' GTO, is the FR or GR (in Firestone) the correct tire dimension wise? Thanks for the help, Mike MA |

PHS says my car came w/ Gs too .. just wondering why Coker rep would suggest FRs are correct? wonder if FR70 Firestone's have closest dimensions to G70 Goodyear? best, mike |

Bias ply Coker G70x14's are 27" tall. Coker FR70x14's are 26.4" tall.
I don't think you're Coker rep knows what he's talking about. |

G77 Red Line (Whitewall, a no cost option) was standard on the GTO.
G70 Blackwall was standard on the Judge.

I think what is widely understood is that G's were standard on GTO's, however there are anomalies. Dad bought his 69 goat new and it came with F's. Still has the original untouched F spare in the trunk. They were all whitewalls by the way.
Discussed this with people more knowledgeable than me and it's believed since the car was built at the Baltimore plant where they were also running Chevelles that used F's, it could have mistakenly gotten the F's. I'm sure that is not the norm so why a tire rep is recommending them is odd. He may just be lumping the GTO in with the rest of the A body stuff. Either way doesn't matter, F's were on the car when he bought it new but if you're restoring one and the build sheet also calls out G's, I'd be putting G's on it. |
