Todays dumb question.
I replaced the shift knob and button on my '70 GP automatic. Now the button goes in, but won't pop back up! What did I screw up?

The button binds in the bore of the woodgrain shifter handle.. ...I've only recently discovered the issue ...I used a dremel tool with a small drum sander attachment and 120 grit drum and lightly sanded it till the PMD button drops in and moves freely ...did this with the button and woodgrain handle off the car....cleaned up the sanding scratches with plastic polish. The button now sits higher and springs up and down with light thumb pressure.

This usually happens if you pry the button off from the top. It will leave small gouges around the top edge of the knob which then causes the button to hang up.
