Default Engine breaking...

I was browsing OD tranny's.

Engine breaking is optional, any benefit to not having it?

Basically the claim when i was looking was faster et's because the bands are not on. The one that i have in the one car while not an overdrive trans is reverse pattern and "free-wheels" or has no engine braking in any forward gear. Fwiw

Getting to neutral with a reverse pattern shifter at the end of the run comes to mind. With low tire pressure non radial slicks engine braking can unsettle the car and be a handful if you catch a side gust at the same time. Also with no engine braking if you do a first or second gear burnout you just coast when you let off.

Thanks for the info.

Is a midplate made that adapts to a chevy trans?
Otherwise you need an adapter on top of midplate.

Just weld tabs to the plate for the upper two bolts if there is no material for holes. Some have enough material to drill for the two bolts up top some are universal. I dont know who has the universal plates. Reverse a chevy plate for the starter location to be on the Pontiac side. The dowels and lower bolt locations are the same.

Dont forget to get a pilot spacer for the crank/convertor hub and appropriate spacers at the convertor bolts. You may need longer dowels depending on the thickness of your plate.

Just remember that when you have a auto trans in neutral that the pump is not engauged, this will shorten the life of parts like gears bands and clutches quite a bit.

Unless the engine is off the pump is pumping. in neautral fluid is not applied to clutchesand there is very little thats going to go dry after a pass down the track has pumped fluid everywhere. How long before you brake to a stop? I dont suggest neutral coasts down every hill you climbed on the highway especially with engine off, but I've not experienced damage or undue wear shifting to neutral before braking after a pass. Then again maybe my junk wasnt fast enough to hurt anything!
