Planing on installing oil cooler when I install my remote oil filter setup. Do I need some sort of anti drain back valve on the lines to prevent long pressure build up at engine start?

When evaluating total engine oil capacity, a tid bit to consider, many common oil filters used do not hold one quart of oil.
Next time you change oil filters, fill the new filter and then let it soak up the oil. Tap it a few times for any trapped air and fill it again.
Do this a few times until it won't take any more oil and you will probably find less than a quart poured into the filter.

I've done this on a larger WIX 51049 filter and found it holds 'about' 3/4 quart.

And if one is running a remote oil filter setup how much oil is in the lines. On mine there is about 3/4 quart of oil.

Now consider evaluating the total engine oil capacity of a running engine.

Side note: Personally I run a remote filter set up because I have custom built headers on my F-body for additional ground clearance.
No room for a 'regular' oil filter on the engine.

i ran a 6" oberg filter mounted up close to where stock trans lines enter the radiator then up to a cooler in front of the radiator
no drain back valves -10 line
extra time for oil pressure build up? barely noticable

I run the 6" Oberg "Pancake" oil filter on my vehicles.

Have done that for years.

They make nice stuff that is "cleanable" does a creat job catching the small micron
crap from the engine. I also run a 3 quart accusump oil tank.

Don’t know about the OPs reasons, but
I did it to get the filter out from behind the headers. Side benefits are dual PH8 Ford full length filters with built in relief. No more hunting for Pontiac filters at a cheap price. I’m in Canada so that issue is magnified. I have a cop car oil cooler that may go on the car too.

I don’t have an anti-drain back on my dual remote set up. It doesn’t seem to take very long for the pressure to come up on startup.

The "Oil Coolers" you see on modern GM Ls engines are in fact, NOT coolers.
They are Oil HEATERS. The premise is faster warm ups, and quickly getting the oil to temp for fuel economy.
I know, shocker, right??
Engine runs same temp with these bypassed, and oil life is same.
In this part of the Country the ends get rusty, and they leak, so I have bypassed a bunch, and replaced them too.

I will use a remote setup because of header clerance and I can run a large filter to increase total oil capacity. Anyone mounted the filter on radiator support? Pics?

Yes, that’s where I put mine, sorry no pics, I’m out of country for a few weeks.

I run custom headers on my TA and with their re-routing everything has been raised up for at least 2 inches additional ground clearance.
Because of the design I run a remote oil filter set up with it mounted out of site up under the fender well behind the tire. This also keeps the to and from oil lines short.
On mine there is about 1/4 quart of oil inside the lines.

This is what I did on mine.

Note no adapter plate, block drilled and tapped for 1/2” pipe.

Another plus of running two 2 Qt filters as I found out is with that much mass there’s no need for a oil cooler unless your motor even with 3.250” mains Is constantly above 5000 rpm.
