SD455 changes hands
After 12 years of ownership, the ol' '73 will be transported to Michigan where the new owner plans to undergo a complete 100pt. restoration.
I, along with others who are familiar with the car, know that it was worthy of holding it's own in a strong "B" catagory as far as overall condition. The car will be nothing more than outstanding after it's restoration and because of it's "1 of 1" production number, will most undoubtly get a magazine feature that it always deserved. Sure I will probably regret selling it but I'd like to move on with building a vehicle I can really enjoy driving without worry of degrading the value. The resto-mod bug has bit me hard and my plans are to upgrade my '79 t/a with all the trick goodies........suspension, big brakes, wheels/tires, EFI, 6 speed trans, etc. Anyway, congrats to the new owner and hope to see the car again, be it in person or publication. Wow, can't believe I missed it in the first picture. I was trying to figure out if I could find anything 1 of 1 in the first picture.
Factory installed or dealer installed? |

Congrat's to you and the new owner. I've always liked that ASC roof look.

Look forward to seeing this car restored. My friend's 74 T/A has that same sunroof in it...its a nice option.

The sunroof was an option offered by GM and was installed by sub-contractor ASC (American Sunroof Co.). The option was basically for the "big car" line, however, I have found in Pontiac service literature that the option was also offered on the F-body cars.
HPP did a feature on this car 4 years ago but because of a personality conflict with the "editor", it was never published. It did the readers of HPP a great disservice. Ironically, a few months ago a martique blue '78 transam with the same sunroof option, was featured in HPP that discloses all the information on how an f-body came to receive this unique option. Check your back-issues and read more on it. Oh well, my story is history but I'm sure everyone will see the SD featured in HPP or other publication in the very near future, as it will be underegoing a complete make-over from a highly regarded shop in Michigan. "Musclecollector".....you are correct, it's been along time since we talked. The '79 will get all the pro-touring goodies........trick suspension, 18" rolling stock, 6 speed trans, wilwood brake setup, interior upgrades, EFI injection, etc. Last edited by Larry Navarro; 12-06-2013 at 11:41 AM. |

I gave up my free time and gave him an excellent vehicle for a feature in HPP........all I got was the finger....... and the readers a missed chance to get familiar with this one of a kind SD. Hell, the feature on Paul Kenneys outstanding survivor '79 S.E. 400/4spd car was done on the same weekend as the SD, and it was never published!! |
