OEM brakes, OEM exhaust, OEM carpet, OEM interior in a vert, and pedal wear. Those are clear signs of a low mileage car.

12,500 miles per yr is not that much depending on where you live, I have over 150,000 on my truck thats not quite 7yrs old. Different times and different vehicles but not out of the question.

People didn't drive that much back then - times were vastly different.

I'm leaning towards that last digit being a tenth. Not that it really matters - you're doing a full off restoration.

Well like Boss says it really does not matter as I am doing a full restoration, I was thinking to leave the engine un thouched, I did check the rod bearing on piston # 2 and the front main bearing (furthest away from the oilpump) and both where exellent with no signs of wear.

But then you also have the time frame, it is 40 years old so I will clean it up hone the cylinders and give it new bearings, springs, rings, chain and a oilpump.

As it looks now so does it not need any machining, everything will be std size.

And I am still thinking about the camshaft, it has a 067 cam now, but I am thinking of a new 068, what do you think ?

Ohhh, I have started on the rear axle as this will be one of the first items that will go back in the frame.

My question is simple, Eaton or Auburn ?

My '69 GTO has a 12 bolt under it and when I built the car, I bought a new set of Richmond 3:55's and an Auburn carrier for it. Held up pretty well. It is 3900 pounds and ran the quarter mile in the high 10's. I know none of what I said is original so.... Mike

No problem if it is original or not, no one will know

This is one of very few upgrades I will do from the original, most of all since it needs it, a 455 with no posi looks like this...

Then it is 1 of 1 for the Auburn

Get an Eaton, an Auburn will wear out quickly and isn't half as strong as an Eaton. The Eaton is more $. I put an Auburn in a '69 Judge and the owner was back a month later complaining he had no posi.

Is there anything else that can document the milage that you know ??

As I see it so could 99952 be 09995,2 or 99952,X , and I have found absolutly nothing on this car that says it has high milage, it even had the original exhaust system when I bought it..

Anyone else that can comment on this ?
Great picts..that mileage very well could be 9995.2..original exhaust, that's neat! How about the drivers seat...how worn is it? (seat springs intact,ect..) shifter knob worn..original master cylinder, radiator hoses orig.(clamps replaced) orig. fuel pump, sparkplug wires, distr. cap, shocks orig. on and on

There is a torne in the drivers seat and some fading due to the sun, but nothing wrong due to use, all springs are ok.
Shifter knob, like new
Was original master, had to change it when I bought it this spring (inside rust)
Radiator and heater hoses has been changed
I think the fuel pump is original, AC pump on it, will check the date
Sparkplug wires
Dist cap and shocks has been changed.
I did change the exhaust this spring since the tubes had rust holes from the inside, did keep the mufflers and hopefully they will be back on the car.

Upper and lower ball joints are original as of most in the front suspension

And some stuff that is done since last time..

Rear brakes, acid cleaned rear plates and parts the bolts have been blackend, cylinders are honed but there still is a small aera in the middle of them that I am not happy with, should work but I have new ones in reserve, new springs, they have been painted close to the original color, not excact but close enough and way better than the ones in the kit, and last new delco brake shoes.

When it comes to the Pads and shoes so do I not want to use Nos, brakes are important so new Delco/GM will be close enough when it comes to orginallity ,

Here is how they where when I took it of the axle

Some more left overs from the inline kit, to shiny to be original

Front brakes..

I am not happy about the way they turned out, they where to bad in the original state so now they got an eastwood treatment, the question is if I shall keep them or buy repro's (Sure, Nos would be nice if I can find them)
What do you think ? Painted originals or "correct" repro ?

And last the rear axle brackets and bumpers are done.

Is PF454 what they are replacing good ol' PF 24 with? I know they are using it to replace the Chevy PF25.

I guess so, I did just order it to the year and engine, this filter will only be used for the first start up and then changed to a PF 24
