Default I have a buddy drooling over Volo auto sales..

I think he is going to jump an a 1970 sierra yellow over sandalwood 455 car.

It is a numbers matching, documented car, does anyone know this car?

I think the price is steep, but otherwise think it is a neat combo.

I guarantee the friend is not me.

I would buy two tempest/lemans 2 door post cars and a base GTO in driver but not show shape at that price and call it a day.

Do you really think it's numbers matching all original?"

Well... don't be surprised if volo grossly misrepresents their cars. And overpriced is a given.

Of course they might accurately represent some cars as well. Your buddy should definitely look at the car inside, outside and underneath in person before buying.

Beautiful car, no doubt....and no '455-4' sticker on the breather!
Seriously, it's a beauty but price is pretty steep.

Arrow Look up the archives...

I remember there was a LONG LONG thread about Volo right here on the PY forums some years back.

I can't recall the exact details but if I recall correctly, there was so much fuss and banter about a particular deal they did and it was looking very embarrasing for Volo that they eventually "rolled over". I think they even joined up as a PY member so they could respond to some of the critisism.

Someone might be able to drag that back to the top.

None of the above was a bad thing because it probably helped or forced Volo to represent their cars for sale more accurately

Yes it was a woman from Florida, and they had to buy the car back from her.
She ended up with a new Mazda RX-8, and Pontiac lost a member.

Volo can have some nice stuff.
Mostly, as a rule, their stuff is requires much scrutiny.

I see things on this car that would require a in person visit before plopping that kind of money down, and I'm no GTO expert.

Volo does have a lot of consignment cars there. Might be a good question to ask.

For the most part, if you talk to the right person at Volo, in person, you will get straight answers if you ask the right questions.

I have see a lot of really cool and good cars sell out of there, as they have been in business a long time, but thin picking as they do ask top dollar.

I may be in that area this weekend if your friend needs more details on this car.

I was at Volo last month. Out of all their cars (300, maybe?) there were a handful of really solid cars that were fairly priced. I saw the '70, and it was just in and not priced yet. It was a solid, un-messed with car, and much nicer than a resale red '65 GTO ragtop they were trying to get 50k for. I saw a '66 2+2 in Mayfair Maize with a black interior for 22k, and it was super clean. Had 421 badges, but not sure if the original block was in the car. It looked to be a solid deal. There was a '40 Ford coupe, unmolested, for about 40k, which was a fair price and the car was straight and not hacked in any way. Then I saw a '15 Ford (the only thing '15 was the radiator) that wa super rough for 30k....it was about a 6k car. I think you could do OK there, as long as you know your stuff.

RUN FOREST, RUN! Anybody who did what they did deserves to starve for a living. Just because they got embarrassed into making it right, they gained no respect and deserve used kitty litter for dinner. But there's an ass for every seat and people don't take advice.

I dont know the story and dont want to know. I go to Volo once a year to look around. I live an hour south of there.

Their prices are high but thats an advertised price. Negotiate, and do your homework like anything else.

The car in question appears to be really nice. I love a well optioned car.

Anyone got a link to the story? I can kind of remember but am not so sure... Search isn't exactly returning much relevant.

It wasn't just the one woman who paid very high retail and got taken that is the problem here. There have been other cars full of mud represented as pristine, sound metal. And that's all a person needs to know. Deal with reputable companies. Yes they have some nice cars coming through. But you're paying for reputation on these deals. Afterall, buying from a dealer guarantees you'll be paying the most you possibly can. Buying from an unscrupulous dealer is paying even more.

At first, I was thinking they were involved in the famous Bruce Willis sale but I researched and that was Black Tie Classics.

X2 !!!

Volo is notorious for misrepresenting their cars.

Remember the lady in Florida who got the GTO delivered from them with the rotted out frame and had to fight it in court to get her money back, and she still lost some of her transport money?

Remember my friend Bill Weyrich, who sold them a non-numbers matching Verdoro Green '69 GTO at Carlisle for just under $15K? It was a frame off car with a 400 out of a '68 GP that he had just over $30K in it. They put a Judge stripe on it and listed it for $24.9K on their website as a numbers matching car.

I live 15 minutes from them, but haven't visited in recent years. They did have occasional decent deals, especially if you look at the long term value increase of some of the cars. Their deals are geared toward people who want an old muscle car, have money, but don't know much about cars. They claim to get plenty of customers like that.

If you don't ask, they don't tell. If they say it's numbers matching or original, it's up to you to confirm it. For example, to them a Tempest converted to a GTO is a GTO!

Lots of weasel wording in the description of this car, especially regarding the condition of the body.
No mention of PHS.
What parts are numbers matching?
Who added the spoiler?
What is the history of the car? How much of its life was in Texas?
Consignment or Volo-owned? Can you talk to the previous owner/seller?

What would it take to get a PHS on the car?

Good point. I'm not the type who wants numbers matching; so if I see it in an ad, I'll move on. (I don't want to pay extra for something that I don't want.)

I saw plenty of "numbers matching" cars that feature brand new aluminum heads, 5 speed manuals and Ford 9-inch rear ends. (in a '67 Pontiac.)

My recc was he get the VIN and fax in for a PHS.

Then again, I also recc'd he get a driver first. 10K or so into a driver lemans, tempest, etc. is a cheaper way to find out if you love taking car of and driving a vintage car.

I was mainly wondering if anyone knew the car personally and could comment on it.

I am not a fan of dealers.

I hope for all the best if he gets it.
