Default Oil containment for a Drag Race car!

Just wondering about pros and cons......im thinking of going to a belly pan from my engine diaper. What are racers thoughts?

I ran a diaper for a while and it was a real pain.
Built a belly pan that can be removed with 4 dzus
buttons and is so much nicer

A belly pan is great, HOWEVER, if things eventually go south (and it happens), please remember to make SLOW TURNS after it blows up. A friend of mine lost his engine at Norwalk. Belly pan contained everything, but when he made the 90deg turn to line up with his trailer, about 5-6 quarts sloshed out of the pan!!! It was one hell of a mess to clean up.

Beat me to the post, Mr Anonymous.
Really good advice which I would not have considered.

I just had a pan built, so much easier and takes 2 minutes to pull off. I had the walls built 5 inches tall, had to notch a few spots to clear limiters, belt drive ect. I will have to take some pics.

Also have a pan with 4 dzus fasteners. Make the sides as high as possible. Sorry I don’t have pics. Car is home. We are in Florida for the winter.

A couple of pics from my car.
The first pic is how low my oil pan is to my frame, the second is the limited space between my flywheel and oil pan .

As long as you headers are outside the frame rails, belly pans work great. Otherwise a diaper is needed

I was thinking of fabricating it out of steel instead of aluminum, just in case a rod or whatever decides to exit the oil pan. I plan on bolting it to the engine and frame…… just thinking!

Before you put it on, fill it with the amount of oil the pan holds - and check it out. Maybe fold the upper sides in to prevent sloshing?

For a given thickness, aluminum wrought alloys are as "blast resistant" as steel. In some instances even better, due to the extra energy absorbed to deform the aluminum.

Default Belly Pan

Check the rules on the thickness of the pan, thinking is has to be .050 or something like that. The pan goes rail to rail. I have full circle mid plate and it bolts to that on the back. Welded a couple tabs on the sides up front.

I’ve seen some pans with absorbent type material such as pig mat in the bottom of them.
Make sure it is glued or secured in some fashion, the stuff makes a real mess when it comes loose and melts around the header tubes.
