I almost don't know how to react: alternately elated that a car like that exists and has been found, and saddened to know that it was never really enjoyed like intended (and at the owner's eccentric life).

Shame that such a great car was never really enjoyed.

I felt the same way. The guy seemed a little strange for sure. Not wanting to turn 3k miles is a little kookoo

that is a stunning color combo. i now wander how many of the corvette guys are driving themselves nuts wandering if there car has the correct yellow nut here and there etc... however, once again, it is not as totally unmolested as they say with the valve cover change but is as nice as one could probably ever get.

And the angst involved with anything requiring "freshening up" due to dried out seals, etc.
ex: Leaky Disc Brake Caliper(s), rebuild may require sleeves of bores due to pitting - would want to retain OEM parts w codes, etc.

Still like it! Even with those Offy and "Badged" Air Cleaner Lid covers.

Gonna ask my old man about it...see what he has to say.

Just noticed the NCRS doc of my father's friend and colleague. I'm sure he knows about it. I'll post what he has to say if he responds to my email.

I would think that if this vehicle is all that it is claimed to be, that no one would dare to even try to make it drivable again.

My guess is that it will be a private museum piece only, and go from one multi million dollar garage to another, without even one mile added to the odometer.

He may not have driven it much, but who's to say the owner didn't enjoy the car?

i mean he carried a pic in his wallet...i didnt see anything about a pic of his wife..

He enjoyed it...he loved it, he took care of it, and im sure he bragged about it to friends...just because a lot of people didnt know much about it means he was carefull, i mean how would you replace it if stolen? or worse an idiot damages it...

im sure it was his baby...

Stuart - I should preface this by saying I almost always agree with what you have to say. This time, too.

Since I have a 4800 mile original car, largely due to my father's eccentric behavior, I feel especially qualified to comment.

I was saddened mostly by the Corvette owner's overall lifestyle. Relative to his care of the car itself I can certainly relate.

The mileage on my car dicates it's activites - but only a little bit. I find my time constraints and social/automotive calendar (and other cars in the fleet) have more to do with how often it gets out than anything else. I've thought about trying to keep it below 5000 but I don't believe I will. It needs to be driven - and will be - as practical. I think I'll shoot for under 10,000 and see how that goes.

Believe it or not my wife is it's biggest detractor. She doesn't get the car thing and would be perfectly happy to see "that old car" out of her spot in the garage.

But, me? When I look out in the garage and see it sitting there....it makes me smile. Every time. That alone is enough for me.

The article states specifically that he did not.

My dad only spoke about our car in hushed tones and to his closest friends (even though it became a sort of neighborhood legend).

He'd be having a fit if he knew what I was doing with it (namely, showing it and driving it).
