Default 69 Head date code oddity

I recently pulled apart a 400 out of a 4 speed 69 gto to rebuild. The block is matching numbers with a date code of E109.
The heads are 48,s with one head date at E089 but the other head is dated K308.
The K308 head seems too far off to be right.
How far off can the head date code be off from the engine date code?

It is my understanding that the engines were all assembled in Pontiac and shipped to the other plants. I believe that the block and heads are normally closely dated. I would not say that it would be impossible for something like this to happen, but it seems very doubtful. The heads on my car were made the same night about a week out from the block.

Unless you know some history on the car, you may wish to find a closely dated head IMHO if you wish this to look correct.

Bruce, what is the build date for your car (data tag)? Assuming the engine matches the build of the car, then the K308 head is a replacement along the way. NO WAY did Pontiac just happen to have a "left over" head just sitting around to use.

If a head was replaced under warranty (S/R), would they just grab one that was rebuilt or pick a brand new one (and did they change cast date on it??)? Just a guess of what may have happened....Or a previous owner just changed it with whatever he got during the 41 yrs....

Actually nothing. SD Performance has one and will trade me as a core for the K308.
What are you asking BTW?

I dont have the EUN # offhand. The block is in the machine shop but the K308 had the heater nipple.

HFR, my engine was put together from various parts by previous owner, as my block cast date is March 4/69...but here's my EUN anyways: 0583632
