I was at the track Sunday and a brand new GTO with 100 miles on the odometer made a pass at the track. It was an automatic car. It ran a blistering 14.95. Who was it that said this car was going to be a low 13 or high 12 sec car?

NickV ran a 13.3@104mph. Stock. 6spd. Person driving that one probably didn't know how to drive.

Most autos are slower, but normally in the 13.80 to 14.00 range. I would also suspect either a lot of spinning or something wrong with the car.

14.9? My wifes 98 GP is faster I believe. Yes I ran a 13.3@104. When I go again, which will be soon, video will be posted and then those that think the GTO is a pig can then eat their words.

I'd say lots of wheelspin and lousy 60' ft times. Lots of people think that drag racing is just flooring the car, well they are wrong. Lots of factors are involved.

When I first took my 72 Lemans to the track, my very first run of the night was a 14.5@100mph. If I would have quit at that point you would have thought that's about as fast as the car gets. By the end of the night I turned a 13.6@102mph with a lousy 2.1 60'ft time. After I install just Drag Radials I got the times down to 13.3@103mph.

My first run in the 2004 GTO was 13.6. Wheelspin and wheelhop. After the 3rd run 13.3.

What was that GTO's mph? 97mph? The new GTO weight in at around 3725. If that car turned a 14.95 he was probably only pulling around 220HP at the rear wheels and around 260 at the crank, assuming 18% drive train loss. I'd say he had major traction issues.

Those that have dyoned their A4 GTO have been getting around between 290HP and 299HP at the rear wheels. That car should have turned a 13.5@101 at best. A6 would be faster.

I wonder if there is some kind of PCM issue or torque management issue with the A4 cars?

I was @ Irwindale's T n T last Thurs. nite, and a new GTO with slicks ran 8.85 on the motor and 8.30 on the bottle, in the 1/8th, of course. My 66 ran 8.2 @ 84 with a 1.70 short time.

An 8.80 1/8 mile time usually translates to around a 13.7 1/4 mile time. Not bad for an A4 car.I have been a Pontiac fan forever (40 years),but for some reason this car does not excite me.Do not take offense,as this is just my opinion. And as we all know, opinions are like A-holes in that everyone has one.I think the the car fits the original 1964 GTO premise;plain in nature, but fast. I think the 65 was better than the 64,and I also think the 05 will be better than the 04. Only time will tell!!!Just wish it could have been built in the USA.I understand the economics of why it was not built here.No offense to our Pontiac friends in the outback, but God bless the USA!
