OK guys in a slightly related line when I do my Chevy 409 stroker build now that Edelbrock has the heads out(Yeah)the car is an auto not a stick and wil look at using a OD. It wil probably be a troque motor like a Pontiac guessing in the 550+ range 700R up to it? Not sure how well a 4L80E would fit in the tunnel of the old X frame.

Skip, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment using one, correctly prepared, of course. Unless you are going to pound the dragstrip every weekend with DOT's, it will be fine. We have quite a few in service behind 454 Chevelle's, and a few Pontiac engines, zero problems or failures to date.......Cliff

No Cliff I will have a 500" Pontiac for track, in a Chevy body. The "little" 470-480 "W" motor will just be "street" Check out the new Hot Rod on them.

Airflow out of ported E heads is looking pretty good so far, 305 ish on the intake 260 on the exhaust.

I built a 1988 4L60 for a customer back around 2000-2001. He has a 1969 Chevelle with a pretty stout 454 in it. He races it nearly every weekend, and puts a LOT of street miles on it.

He had the engine out about a year ago to be freshened up, so he dropped the transmission off to be checked out. It didn't need anything. I sealed it back up, replaced the 3-4 clutches just because we were in there, and gave it back to him, still going strong. The car runs low 12's in full street trim......Cliff

happens to have a 4-speed Hydromatic laying around the shop. I just have to find
someone familiar with that tranny.

I think the 4L80E would be a better overall setup, although I have the TH400 and GV setup in my car.
