Default 70 gto master cylinder

I have a rebuilt original 70 gto master cylinder. Question is should it be painted black or be just bare cast iron. Source books do not agree and I have had supposed experts tell me both answers. Any original cars with input?

Same discussion over on the Chevelle boards. From what I've understood is, that it depended on which Delco plant the assembly plant got its master cylinders from. I also understand that replacement MCs were painted.

But it also seems that someone will always have an exception to the above so we may have to rely on Original Owners with a good memory

I changed the original MC on my car back in the eighties. I didn't think at the time to write down if it was painted or not.

I think its safe to say it can be both ways.
