Default Valley pan

Going to replace my sheet metal aftermarket valley pan with a factory unit. Which year model(s) will clear both hydraulic and solid roller lifters?

I'm not sure any of the stockers have the clearance but didn't do a ton of research. I went with a new Tomahawk pan from Butler which clears roller lifters.

My stock one from my 389 that I used ( because it was clean already ) on my 455 cleared my Comp cams solid rollers , but my non EGR one from my 400 would have worked also because I checked during mock up.
.
What brand are you using in terms of lifters?

My factory 73 455 valley pan required just a bit of messaging to clear the Lunati roller lifters in the engine. That messaging made it leak a little however. I replaced it with the already mentioned Tomahawk pan which is of very good quality.

The ‘73 and later EGR pans with the huge bathtub under the intake are the ones that always give you trouble.

The ‘72 and earlier pans should be good but always check for interference before buttoning it up.

Hi Roger,
I would say just go with a new Tomahawk pan.
That way not buying a swamp meet junk that someone sandblasted inside then your motor doesn't get wiped because of it.

I also never had a problem with 72 and earlier pans clearing, but not worth the time and effort to get them cleaned up.

Unless the build requires the later Tomahawk pan for looking correct, the early pan with the PCV in the rear is a much nicer and better fitting unit. If you look on the Butler site the 61-67 valley pan has the cutouts to clear the intake manifold ports while the later does not. It takes considerable more work getting the later pan to clear.

Tomahawk pans are based on the 70 unit. I have a valley pan off a 1970 455 and it clears solid roller lifters.

For a street car the Tomahawk Valley Pan is the only choice. Clears roller lifters, looks just like the OEM unit and has factory type baffling for correct operation of the PCV system.

Ouch. Can confirm that the butler tomahawk or the 68 to 70 valley pain will clear hyd roller lifters.

Motors still running if it makes you feel any better. The sheet metal one from butler replaced it. It’s a nice piece one you get it fitted.
