Thanks again Kenth

I think I might actually follow it this time.

IF I need bypass air, all I have to do is drill holes in these cavities:

The "mismatched" baseplate already has the bypass features and the blades are able to completely cover the transfer slots. I assume these holes are the "metering" or restriction point for bypass air if I drill through the body:

And my airhorn already has the bypass features.

Book 'em, Dan'o...

Franken carbs are common and seen all the time more than you may realize.
I would not let it wreck your day.
Careful inspection and assuring gaskets match as well as circuit passages are compatible can make it successful.
Aside the bypass air circuit not being complete I would carefully look over those main well plugs you completed.
I would be concerned that the passages could be obstructed with the repair.
In most cases well plugs do not require replacement unless previous tampering has been evident

Thanks for the heads-up shaker455

The plugs are not restricting flow that I can tell.

Idle tubes and primary nozzle feeds are clear and connected. I ran wires and/or pipe cleaners down both and see them come out the wells below the main jets.

I left idle tubes at 0.037" and DCRs at 0.055", both larger than "stock" for this carb. Upper and lower airbleeds are stock. I have 70 and 73 jets, 44B, 45B, and 41B rods available. I plan to start with 73/44B as a start.

Big question is whether I need bypass air.

If it is predictable, let me know and I can drill now. If not, I'll leave it off and see if I can get it to idle with the blades closed.

What size holes are in the base for bypass and what's your elevation?

PM received,
Ship me your carb, I'll look it over as well as live test it and verify with wideband O2 sensor.
That way you can eliminate the carb as an issue and focus attention on root cause.

Thanks to shaker455

Carb is back together and on its way for a vacation at his carb resort.

You may all thank him for reducing my post count.

Shaker455 is a true carb whisperer and I am grateful for his help.

I just finished the rest of my changes, static-timed the engine, poured some gas in the carb vent and it fired right up. It quickly settled into an idle for the first time EVER.

He found a vacuum leak at the APT screw and added bypass air. I'm not sure about other tuning but I'm truly excited to have the engine idling.

I shut it down to address a gas leak at the pump and there's lots to do.. a noise I don't like, yada yada, but...

.....
.....

THE CARB IS NOT A BARRIER !!!!

THANK YOU SHAKER !!!

Your very welcome Mike!
Not a Franken carb anymore!
That's strong runner you have there so your all set.
Your underhood looks real nice too!
Wish I asked about vacuum ports you were not using I would have removed the tubes in the front and plugged them off to keep it simple.
