PSA: Raleigh Classic Car Winter Auction (Dec. 3rd/4th)
Just a PSA that the Raleigh Classic Car Winter Auction is coming up on Dec. 3rd/4th for anyone interested. There are some interesting Pontiacs, although not a lot. Quite a few Caddys and Mustangs.

Maybe I'm weird, but I'm attracted to that 1976 Bonneville...29k miles, Firethorn red exterior with a matching red velour interior. What a pimpmobile.

I'd love me some '64. But that GTO looks like it will command some serious money.

They always have a lot of interesting cars at that auction. It seems that most of the time they are advertised as low mileage original, and they all seem to be in top condition. Makes one wonder where they all come from.

I think Chris Leith own the company that puts on the auction. He is a car collector and owns a string of new car lots in the area.

Chris' father Mike Leith started the auction company, in the early 2000's from what I remember. I went to several of the auctions in the early years. Back then he was auctioning many cars from his own collection, housed 30 miles away in Zebulon. He would brag that every car was driven to the auction location, not trailered. He then started offering to auction collections of friend's cars along with his.
Mike is old enough that he hired a guy named Rick Hendrick to work for him many years ago. I worked for one of his dealerships in the early 90's myself. |
