Holy Dominator!
The fastest my car has been on motor in street trim has been 11.098 @ 121 with a 1.61. And that was after a full night of tunin. So the past week i have traded my 950hp for a 1050 dominator. i had to use an adaptor that didnt really match up to the intake and nos plate but i figured id use it anyway just to see if it was worth it. Pulled it off the trailer and made a pass.....usually i will shut the car off and check a plug to start the tuning process off but it felt like a terd. It spun and just didnt feel right. So i just kept driving down the return rd to get what i thought was an 11.50 slip, and i end up staring at 10.77 @ 124.80 with a 1.51. short time. WTF! Unfortunately I was having to much fun in the 10s and didnt do any tunin all night but i am sure it would have went faster.....I cant even tell ya what jets are in it. 6 passes ranged from 10.78 to 10.74 and 1 10.91 comepletely sidways 60 ft. Talk about impressed! I cant wait to go back on a shootout night when the track is really prepped.
oh yeah and before u ask.....72 Lemans 455 with 4.210 strk and 6.625 rod with flat top ross and e-heads from kaufman 325s, solid roller 271 278 630 lift on a 108, victor 4150 and a 1050 dom, 410s 29.10.50w hoosiers with a th350 and a 8in neal chance conv, 3650lbs through 3in exhaust with magna flow street mufflers.

If you get a chance to try one....I would def go for it, the adaptor is kinda hokey if you ask me but it seems to work just fine. And it isnt any less streetable than my 950hp with plugged power valves. I aint never going back thats for sure.....after reviewing the video tape the car is spinning about 10-15 foot out.....the bumper drops hard at the initial launch but it comes up to fast and the tires spin over a few rotations once it gets out there. The front is all stock and when i take the hood off it picks up over a tenth and a half, and i think its cause it doesnt tranfer very well with the weight of the hood on the nose. Maybe some after market shocks and a glass hood and Im lookin at a 10.50 or so......More things to try...along with tuning......

If you guys are going to try a Dominator maybe you can borrow one for a weekend. Pretty expensive to buy just to try. As far as on the street and responsiveness, just for kicks I put a 1050 on my street 455 and it was as sharp as a good qjet. I was amazed. And burned twice the gas! (8-0) It came right back off and onto a race motor.
BTW, dont be afraid to use an adapter to put the 4500 onto a 4150 manifold if its necessary. If you do buy a Dom I suggest you investigate the dissimilarities between the older model Dominator and the "new and improved" HP model. They are way different. Not just in design but in airflow as well. Apparently Holley HPs are rated using the same "new and improved" cfm ratings as Barry Grant. |

When Holley came out with the HP series they adopted the 20" test pressure as well to equalize with BG. That what I think I know about it, someone who knows better is free to correct my understanding. On the dyno Sunday we were using a very good 1050HP series carb that worked flawlessly on the old motor. Jeff the Holley guru tweaked it up to about 693hp. The fuel consumpion curve didnt look right. I suggested we try the old 1050 Dom I had with us but the consensus was that the new HPs were a much better carb. I insisted we try the old one and 2 pulls and one jet change later we were at 725hp using the "obsolete" design Dominator. Tomorrow, its getting worked over. Holley boy promises infinate adjustability of everything. Like Im going to lift the hood anyway. LOL Frankly I dont know what the better results means to anyone else but for me that the old style box stock carb seemed to work better on this particular combo. A couple questions, BrandX: Was there a spacer with the 4150 carb, if yes what height? open or 4 hole? Also, what height and mfg was the adapter? I am looking at a similar test.
thanks, Greg

I have an HP Dominator 1150 cfm. If I switch it with my Dad's old style 1150 my car will pick up .06 in the 1/8th. What does an HP 1050 or 1150 flow at 28"?

ok no spacer other than adaptor and big shot nitrous plate. The adaptor is a alum thing probably made by mr gasket or moroso, and its probably 1 1/2 to 2in tall. I dont know alot about it, cause its a swap meet 2 dollar piece. Looks like every other adaptor i have seen in mags and at the track on the small block ford 10.5in tire mustangs cause they dont have a readily availiable intake for a dominator. They all use adaptors.
