oh great - the red-headed-step-child of the Pontiac Ram Air carburetors is being copied...
So the cheapest option for someone who want's a legitimate RA Quadrajet, now has a cheaper alternative... lol

But, by 1989 cars were much better than the early 80s models which were pretty bad. The Olds 307s were good engines, just not the most powerful. Unfortunately anyone can take classes in quality control online now.

That is the first I have seen of a Chinese Q-Jet. I have used half a dozen Chinese small engine carbs with mixed results. All but one ran pretty decent, the one I couldn't get right, I just threw out and got a second one which ran OK. At $300.00 a pop, I would expect my Chinese Q-Jet to run properly which is about a 1 in a million chance, IMO. Q-jet is a very complex and intricate carburetor. There is just no way it would run like an OE one. I would love to have one to play with but unwilling to pay $300.00 to be disappointed.

I just noticed on E-bay a Q-jet from China being offered with a front inlet float bowl. Comes with a pile of jets, gaskets, and multiple throttle arms. Being marketed specifically as a GTO replacement and Pontiac. 400-428 engines. Possibly in a couple years, after lots of feedback and complaints, it may be a usable part. Hard to say. The Chinese do seem to listen, modify and improve over time much like the Japanese. Eagle brand engine hard parts were just terrible and not usable at all as delivered to the US for the first five years or so. They have gradually improved to the point where I have to re-work about 10% of their stuff before use. These carbs may be a similar situation. At least they have a front inlet.

I could be wrong here, but I don't ever recall seeing a Chevrolet application, car or truck, big or small block using a front inlet Q-jet. I thought all Chevrolet and Cadillac applications used the side inlet and BOP applications were front inlet. Is this correct? If so, that's why I was so surprised to see a front inlet Chinese knock-off. Would love to get my hands on one to see how bad it really is.

there were some front inlet Chev carbs;
I had one ages ago, iirc it was a 1976 truck application, 750cfm, and still used a mechanical divorced choke.

That's why I try to be the last guy who says "never and always". With millions of units out there and hundreds of configurations, I am not completely surprised. It's always a weird feeling when a Ford or Mopar shows up with a Q-jet under the hood. But they both used them in limited applications from the factory.
