Pearl Harbor
December 7, 1941 - Lets not forget. I didn't see anything on TV or in the news about it.

Very true--you can barely get people to acknowledge Veteran's Day and Memorial Day, let alone this one.

I have but not as much as of Nelson Mandela. Our heroes are more important us than he was.

This day needs to be remembered to Honor the people who experienced this event first hand, and the Memory of the people that didn't survive. And lets not forget the people that fought in WW II right after this event to help us maintain our freedom. The Historical Significance of this day should always be remembered and no one in the Media or the Government should try and "downplay" it. And it should always be part of the History learned in school.

Sad, this nation pays more attention to the Karda-skanks and all other lowlife celebrities.

While out running errands with my family yesterday we stopped in to visit my 101 year old grandmother. Her mind obviously isn't what it once was but even she remembered December 7th.
Her brother was killed in WWII and her husband, my grandfather, was wounded on Guadalcanal and walked with a limp for the remainder of his life. So she has no great love for the Japanese. It was just funny yesterday in this "politically correct" world we live in to hear my grandmother still referring to them as those goddamn dirty Japs.

How soon we forget. When I was a kid it was front page news, now almost nothing. So sad we don't honor one of the most important events in our history.

When I was at the Arizona Memorial on July 4th in early 2000s I didn't see but one other person remove their hat as we walked over the tomb of the hull.

My dad said that it was one of those 'events' in our nation's history where everybody remembers where they were and what they were doing when the news broke of the Pearl Harbor attack. I doubt that he had any idea that a short time latter he would be a C-47 pilot making many trips across the channel and into Europe. Sadly there are those in our nation who have, for their own ideological goals, tried to remove all history that portrays America as a good, just, and moral nation. The last 2 generations of children have grown up with almost no knowledge of any defining events since the founding of our country. Government has become their 'god' and their provider. I fear that too much water has passed over the dam for us to turn this thing around.

Seems to me that people are becoming jaded and skeptical regarding these events when they learn some of the things they learn about the leaders of the time. Whether that's the intent or not, that seems to be the outcome.

As it has been mentioned above its unfortunate not much on that historic day in our history was mentioned this year. In some part probably due to the fact most veterans that were there are no longer with us. Every day the numbers dwindle down.......even in my group which was the Vietnam conflict.
My father in law was at Pearl Harbor when they hit that fateful morning. He passed away about a dozen years ago. My mother in law born in Hawaiis and some of my wifes older sisters were born on the island. Its been passed down to me for safe keeping but I have an actual piece of one of the Jap planes or from one of the ships that went down that fateful morning that my father in law retrieved. denniskirban@yahoo.com |
