Was just reading the new HPP mag article about the Jess Tyree "Big Stinker" 62 SD catalina, when I noticed it said Jess's car was owned/raced by Fred Davisson around 1969/1973 time frame ( he bought it from PY's own PJ Heck) then sold along with another 62 SD car to Alton Minchey in 1973, says he kept Jess's car for 30 some years before resto, what about the other car? I'm guessing the car pictured in my first post in this thread is it, and I believe they talked like the car was in the St Louis area, unfortunately Alton passed away in late july 2013 a few weeks after the POCI in Dayton. unless this is a pic of Jess's car prior to resto?

I believe the estate just sold the Tyree car and was close to selling the other.He owned tons of Pontiac stuff including a 455 SD bird.Early on I helped them get ahold of Jess and Bill Turner.Tom

I brought this car home to Ohio from Detroit in 1964, serial #362P 56322. I had to give the serial to Frank B. at Pontiac whenever I wanted parts. Got it from David Iwaniuk who posted it for sale on a bulletin board in Midwest Speed shop somewhere on the north side of Detroit or surrounding area, $1700.. Might have been Ron Reiders shop...???? Later bought several pairs of heads from him.....

It had a legitimate original engine w/980 heads/859 intake added. No trans when I got it. Also had a really different looking Harrison aluminum radiator w/octagon shaped top tank, cant remember the bottom tank shape.......was supposed to have an aluminum steering sector but I never checked it. Also had the aluminum ex/headers on which I never changed. Gold on top is supposed to be made w/24K dust.............???

Story Iwaniuk gave me then was that this was originally Deloreans nephews car. I have several old pictures dated '64/66. I ran at the first or second Springnationals, Bristol, in 1966, even have a picture of that. Lost to class winner, 'Kicks', '66 427 Chev big car.

You guys from the Detroit area might know more about the locals involved with this.....lets hear from you..!!!! Some one check out David Iwaniuk & Ron Reider.....they may still be with us.....

I thought of some things to add, but not being able to edit, (and why is that???) I forgot them before I got to this form.........I will hang the laundry while I try to rethink of them!!!!

Ok......clothes hung!!!! Notice there is no trunk lid.....??? Reason may be that when I got the car, the inside supporting sheet frame panel had been removed, no doubt a lightening technique, but illegal for stock class where I wanted to run. I cut that section out of a trunk lid at a local junk yard just a bit bigger & screwed it in place around the perimeter w/small SS hex screws from a job I was working.

And, the angled braces behind the rear seat were also cut out. I replaced them the same way. That should still be able to be seen, would have been a tedious restoration job to have welded a complete section in there. Car still has its original paint from the look of it.

I sold it to Richard Compton from New York, it then went to Davisson.......late '60's .....I think

Searched for an hour for pictures.........nada!!!!

There is one of me running at Bristol & one of the car in my front yard w/tow bar hanging on. Where they are remains a mystery........

Here is only one I found, I was towing w/a 405 HP '61 w/Jet-a-way. Only other car I had. Back then if you had a tow car, you were top shelf!!!! Drove the '61 to work when it was my day in the car pool, 3 other guys, 60miles one way.

I have a cloudy 8x10 of this car just after I got home with it, but picture needs 'computer' enhancement to be worth looking at.

Found some other photos which may be of interest too........blue & white car are the current ones in the stable, white on scheuled for restoration, blue one still being raced, be a really biggy job to restore it. Tempest front end is aluminum w/light wt steel bumper. Sold it inot Fl during a snow storm!!!!! Yellow '62 was a 4spd/2barrel work car. Intake manifold group should excite restores of such.....

Starting line photo is at Farmington, NC, Bill Blairs race & show event....smacks of 1962...... Danny Gouveia on board the 409 car. Floyd Garrets '62 bubble top car was there at later date.

I love the pic with the intakes. Did u ever race with the "128" 4bbl intake? The dual quad intakes with the carbs on them are those "859" or bathtub intakes?

The picture Pontiac Larry posted of the Davisson and Reardon car looks like is says something about Arlan Vanke on the rear fender. Don't know where Davisson and Reardon were from but I thought Vanke was out of Akron Ohio. And by the date presented for the picture I thought Arlan had switched to Mopar.

First question..... The intakes pictured are '859s. One has the 5" top AFB's, no longer remember their ##s. Guy I got that from had one of the aluminum front end Tempests & told the story that the bigger carbs were added later. Have 2 of the '128s, one factory,........other is a Randy Williams "improved" version.......seems a much better design & is currently on the engine in the blue '62 sedan pictured. Picture of Williams improved version enclosed here.......

Second comment.....best I recall, Davisson was not far from Akron. I once called Arlen Vanke & asked if he had any idea where any of the Pontiac stuff he had might be & he said something to the effect of "......why would you want to fool with that junk???????....."

You are correct in regard to the time frames, Davisson didnt get the blk/gold car until about 1970-3....??? I have no idea whether Vanke was involved at that time.

Found the picture of the 1966 Springnationals I ran the blk/gold car in, this was a first round win for me. The fast car was Wally Booth in a '66 Chevelle, he went 12.30 or something close to that, fastest I got was 12.41. He lost a transmission during class & was out......... 'Kicks' blue/white '66 Chevy won all the marbles in B/S.

PJ, feel free to post up any of your 62 or 63 SD car photos and any other info you have on these cars! i'm sure there's a bunch of us who would like to hear the stories! BTW the Tyree car was supposed to have aluminum doors at 1 time, any of the 62 SD cars you've had, have them? or have you seen any others? (besides Royal Sedan) surely there were more than 2 pairs made? unless they were prototype pieces?
