Question Victor under a Firebird hood

looking for opinions if it will go under a 69 Firebird hood.

I will be going from a T2 with a 1" spacer and 850 Holley, to a Victor, no spacer and a 1050 dominator. I do have a 2" cowl that should help a bit.

I had a Victor, one inch spacer, and a Dominator when I first got my car, but I believe my cowl is 3.5 to 4 inches.

Have a Victor, Dominator, 1/2 n2o plate, and 2 1/2" K&N filter. Just touches hood when shut. Have a 4" cowl on 67' Bird

I tried a Victor with a Q-jet (no spacer) and it barely fit under my OEM 400 hood. It was a pig, I suspect a spacer would have helped. I switched to a Tomahawk with a 1" spacer and it ran much better, and there was room to spare. Now I run a T-II with a 1" spacer, 850 DP Holley, and it barely fits under the same 400 style hood. I will never run a hood scoop or cowl hood on this car...I like the OEM look.

A fwiw. On the Year One Bandit Trans Am project with a 535 combo Jim Butler used a Victor intake with the carb flange milled down 0.650" to help it fit under the hood. With the cut down intake he used a WFO drop base unit for the TA Shaker scoop. Tested on the engine dyno at peak power rpm it gave up about 15 hp by milling the intake. On my current 505 street engine I did the same thing with a Victor intake & HP950 carb. On the dyno I lost about 8-10 hp at peak power rpm after milling the intake flange 0.650". Not a race deal so for me I don't miss the 8-10 hp, the engine made 660 hp at 6000 rpm.

wonder how the Northwind intake would compare
is that one a little shorter compared to a milled Victor?

did you notice any change in output at the lower rpm range? figured if you lost a little up top, did it help down low?

I had my 4150 Northwind with a 3/8" spacer and a flat topped drop base air cleaner with a 3" filter under my OE 400 hood. The Victor is about 1 1/4" taller than the Northwind according to this: http://www.tinindianperformance.com/...-measurements/

going by those measurements, it`s going to be about 1.3/4" taller than my T2. so hopefully with a 2" drop base it will be ok
