How fast are you looking to go with it. Only takes 600HP to get those things in the 9s. You can do that with factory block, D ports and N crank and it will last for years.
Would not be hard to build a long rod 400 that revs a little and makes 700+ HP. That would be fun
Might as well call it a Vega if you shove a small block it it. And unless you plan on a crazy high dollar, high HP small block you do very well against most small blocks with basic Pontiac stuff.

Same exact oiling system as a Pontiac BTW.
