There was an earlier post by someone wanting to know what the best oil is. People had as many opinions as there are oil brands. Does anyone know of a published report on motor oil comparisons? I will go on record as saying that I was an Amsoil dealer, but I am not convinced due to some finding of my own that it is the BEST. Also for those slamming Mobile 1 I would love to see some hard core facts. It is the synthetic everyone tries to compare themselves to - Even Amsoil.

My father-in-Law was a Chemist at Rohm & Haas in the division that did independent tested of ALL major motor oils. Maybe I could get him to post some of his findings.
BTW He used to take me to their test facility and let me pick whatever oil I wanted. They had everything in 50 gallon drums. While I was choosing, I could always here the test engines running. Didn't matter what time of the day we showed up.

And for those of you that don't know, Rohm & Haas was formerly one of the very few companies that produced the VII (viscosity index improvers), PPD (pour-point depressant), and dispersants that the oil companies use to make up their additive packages. R&H has little to no involvement with this market now. Several of their oil additives plants were shut down years ago, and their Houston and Morrisburg plants were first placed into a joint venture (RohMax), and then sold outright to the other partner in the joint venture.
I really don't think there is an overall "best" oil right now. Any approved oil is going to be darned good. They are all basically just a good base stock oil with additive packages, with the additives being produced primarily by either Ethyl, Lubrizol, or RohMax -or a combination of the three. hope this helps, Lee Atkinson Quality Manager RohMax Houston
