Edelbrock heat insulator
Bought this for my '65 389 Bonneville because had the heat soak issue. Well, first had to drill new holes since it only had holes for the wider bolt pattern. Easy enough but noticed that it leaves a small gap for air to get through on each side of the intake since 389 has so little surface for the gasket.
I used a gasket that came with the carb rebuild kit and seemed to cover the gaps but not sure how it will behave in the future so thinking about adding some gasket sealant to prevent future air leaks. Anyone who had the same issues with the heat insulator and what was your solution? Last edited by samiralfey; 08-23-2022 at 01:36 AM. |

Well, continuing my monologue here but used a tad of sealant and put it together again and wow! what a difference a rebuilt and back-to-specs-carb can make! Smooth idle and the amount of power now, feels like a totally different car.
I think that the secondaries weren't even working before, feels so smooth and pulls great! Carburetor also felt cool compared to before the insulator. The problems I found when rebuilding the carb was : -stuck fuel metering rod -leaking float -float levels way off -full of crap -secondaries were opening way too early -choke flap incorrectly adjusted -lid gasket in 3 pieces Now on to the next problem, that is fan not blowing. It works but not from the switch. edit: had to do a burnout, she was just asking for it Benefits from living in the countryside Last edited by samiralfey; 08-23-2022 at 11:41 AM. |

I'm having issues with my 68 once it gets up to operating temperature, hoping a carb spacer will get that under control.
Glad you got your issues sorted out.

I have always used the extra thick gaskets and no spacer. They are about 3/8 inch thick. If you can't find those you can find the 1/8 inch thick ones and put several together.
