I just got my new Edelbrock heads in the mail today and they should be the same, both have the number 60579 on the box.
But they dont exactly look the same and have diverent casting numbers "D-215-49" and "D-215-49"
Could this be an old and a new casting?
The cambers are machined the same but look diverent and the shims under the valve springs are diverent also.
The one head "D-215-49" seems to have a 3 angle valve job and the "D-215-46" does not.
I also found a couple of pieces of aluminium in side the runners that would have hurt my new engine.
Can anybody tell me more about the diverence between the two castings.
Thanks.

Are there any numbers that are INK stamped on the end of the boxes, say four digits?

Who did you buy them from. Are the head bolt bosses the same on the inside of the head. Edelbrock did change those this year.

These are the numbers stamped on the boxes.
2008 for the D-215-46
And 2249 for the D-215-49
The head bolt bosses are not the same, some are deeper then others.
The water channels are not the same either.
These came via kre directly from summit.
So i will contact kre and ask them what to do.

The 2008 is the older head and the 2249 is the new revised head. The e-heads made after 3-15-2002 or stamped on the box with the number 2074 and greater are the new revised head. The new ones use bolt kit 8549 and use three bolt lenghts. The older heads used six bolt lenghts. Send the older head back for a newer one to match the 2249. Thats all i can post for now as i have to go to work.

Did they port them for you. I would ask them if they could send you the bolts you will need or if they can exchange the old style for a new style or a new style for an old style. You will just need to diff bolt kits for the heads you have.

I was wrong, kre got the heads direcly from Edelbrock.
Kre did not port them they just helped me with the shipping, so they are not to blame.
I sent Edelbrock an E-mail explaining my probleem.
So i think i will have to wait for them to respond.
i was also thinking that the easyest way is to use a new ARP head stud kit for the new head and just use these heads.
The probleem is that it will cost me alot of muny to sent one of these heads back and forth to the Netherlands.
So what ever the solution i get stuck with the bill.

Use the two different bolt kits, and keep good notes for the future. Be very careful considering a stud kit. It might make it impossible to remove the heads while on the car - especially the driver's side.

I got a reply from Edelbrock saying they would take care of my probleem, and they would pay the shipping cost.
I am realy surpriced by there willingness to help take care of this mistake.

I got the E-mail from a guy called David.
He was very cool about the mixup, and told me they would take care of everything.

I just looked I have the 215-46 version heads. I just bought bolts for them from Summit. I think they only have three diffrent lenghts. I test fit them through the bolt holes though and they seem to be ok. How much is supposed to stick through the heads to engage the block?
