We(Joe and I) know the only issue with the pontiac head gasket to block is that large oil drain back so the sure fix is a Cometic with the smaller hole like the 301 head gasket has.If we think the water holes are a issue with the 301 gasket to head match we will just order the Cometic.Tom

Ok,made the decision after looking at all gaskets to use the Butler gaskets. It looked to us that the oil drainbacks were a smidge smaller and "hope" they seal. The 301 gaskets hung into the CC too much for us.Here are pics of both on the head.Tom

So Tom -

Does the rod shim spacers spin with the crank or are they keyed somehow to remain in a fixed position?

Email the picture to yourself on your phone and them go to your computer, download it and post. The iPhone is the absolute worst for accessing files.

Joe is doing the clearance for the roller lifters on the pushrod cover,he has the oil filter relocation kit.I hope he gets the water to it next week to be sure it does not leak.I think the last thing to do will be order pushrods.Hope to have it on the pump soon.Tom

Great news!Joe put the water to it today and it did not leak(so far).Still have the oilfilter relocation to over come with the headers.Push rods are ordered.Might be on the pump in a week or so.Tom

Well,if it was not for bad luck I would have no luck at all!Joe was setting the valves and something did not work!Looks like I gave him a RA V cam which has a diff valve placement on 4-6 and 3-5.Now we have to order a cam.CRAP!Tom

LOL, you sure you're not related to me??? After building some Chevys, and a Buick I went back to building a Pontiac for a friend. I did the rookie backwards rod swap because of the opposite banks. Needless to say, I invested heavily in his engine, LOL. When other people mention that mistake I just drop my head and stay quiet.
