I hated sh!thooks. When they landed on our flight deck with patients it was damned near impossible not to go into the safety net when offloading, and that gearbox right above the rear ramp is the damned noisiest thing I've never been near, including top fuelers.

In this 2004 video the H60 helicopter crew is hoisting crewman from the stricken vessel Selendang Ayu, to the Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley, in the Bering sea, near Unalaska. There were 26 crewman aboard Selendang Ayu.

Later, during the rescue, while hoisting crewmen from the Selendang Ayu, a huge wave of water, splashed off the ships hull upward into the helicopter, the engines flamed out and the helicopter crashed into the sea.

A smaller H65 helicopter, the 6513, that was deployed aboard Cutter Alex Haley rescued the three Coast Guard aviators, who were wearing survival suits, and one of the crewmen.

Tragically, six lives were claimed by the Bering Sea.
