Being that they are a 400 block bored to only 4.06" they would have to have start off life with .060" thicker Bores and they would not have a special casting as it would make for the need of a transfer lug to notify works go route these such blocks into a different phase of machining if you ask me.

Service replacement block.
So maybe I picked up the same block in Vegas last week.
It does not have an SR stamp bit the casting has been grounded and stamped 9778785. It also has the same casting date G118. Std bore 389 with amasteel crank and 76 casting heads build late 64. Most interested thing about this block is the thrust bearing was on 1st main cap. |

And I guess the crank is cut for the thrust on number 1 main?
I just looked a 58 370 block and a 1959 first year 389 block and both of them have the thrust on the normal 4th main, so I don’t know what the heck you have there!

The crank has a beautiful wear mark about 1/16 deep on the first counterweight. The motor had a lot of miles and survived okay.
