71 gto ho color choice canyon or castillion br?
getting ready to paint this car (71 gto ho 4 sp. hardtop with ivory interior #s matching) rotiss resto, just thought I would get some opinions on the color. It is an original castil bronze car but I really like the canyon copper it's not real far off from the castil bronze, just sprayed some test panels and the copper is just awesome, I know, I know about "keeping it original" do you think the color change to copper will hurt the selling price, I will be done with the car in about 2 months, it will be sold to someone! thanx!!! as always.; forrest

This will be the first car I've done in years where I'm considering a "change" from the original, just love the copper!

Forrest, I was faced with the same dilema on my 71 vert. It was originally Castillion, and I went with Canyon Copper. I really like CC on the 71. But, CB is still a very good choice.
CC gets my vote.

IMO, I would keep it Castillion Bronze. First of all, I personally like that color a bit better on those cars. Second, it is original. Third, I think darker exterior colors with white interiors are stunning due to the contrast.

Forrest, as you know I'm a fiend for originality, but Canyon Copper is one heck of a gorgeous color.

can. copper is def. lighter than bronze but I consider it in the darker region of colors. It has a "brilliance" to it, kinda like a new penny but better, more "metallicy" (is that a word!??) ! The copper is still a great contrast with the ivory int. 'cause it is a darker color, I guess you can tell I favor the copper! But the key here is this will not be my car so I don't want to hurt the selling price by changing the color, I really don't think it will hurt that much?

Hey Forrest - I have a grand idea . . .
There's a '71 Judge feature in last month's HPP. It's supposed to by Lucy Blue but appears to be MUCH closer to Adriatic Blue . . . Paint the GTO Canyon Copper, and simply inform any prospective buyer that it's Castillian Bronze, LOL!

Hey Forrest, my vote is the Castillion Bronze. I'm an original guy, especially if it's an all numbers match. PLUS, you DON'T see Cast. Bronze on cars at shows! Very rare that I have seen one at a show, cause people change the color when they repaint. Hard to deny value drop when all numbers match and repainted original. I understand you want it to market to the most interested people, and color does affect perspective buyers. I love CC too, but I'd go to keep original.
OR, you could try to market it now to a buyer and let the buyer decide?

If you are just going to sell it then definitely keep it original. I don't think CC will attact that many more buyers than CB. BTW here are a few pics of CB cars. I definitely like the depth of the CB better than the CC with the white. Plus the white GTO and 455HO stickers will really show.

I would agree with the originality is the safe bet for resale.
But, I would also agree with Lloyd that a color change from CB to CC is more subtle than most color changes. I always thought of CB was closer to a root beer color, and now I see it shown in some of these examples getting closer to CC? The ones Pat has shown all look different? The one on ebay looks closer to CC?

Thanx for all the input guys! The test panels I sprayed showed that the bronze is darker than I thought, the copper is dead on with an original copper deck lid that I have (bottom that doesn't see sunlight) the bronze that I sprayed may be off from ppg's formula. Just seems too dark, maybe I'm wrong. I'll have to do further examination on this. Thanx again!

Forrest:
Canyon Copper or Lucy Blue! Either will look great with that Ivory interior. You know me, I'm still lusting for a Lucy Blue car...what kind of payment plan can we work out...are you interested in a "buy here pay here 'cause we tote the note" deal????? Be sure to calculate the payments with the late fee already figured in...I might be interested as soon as I get my stimulus check from the gov'mint.. BJ
