Question Speedo malfunction

It reads 10 mph slow at all speeds.

I recently changed rear artio to a 3.73.

With that change I also changed the tranny drive and driven gears as required.

10 teeth drive & 28 teeth driven gear, this is a 200r4 trans.

Tire size is 255-50-17 , 27 in tall.
These should be the corect gears.

I spoke with www.transmissioncenter.net about this and they assured me this is correct.

After install ansd checking speed with GPS and following a correct car, they tell me the speedo is more than likely bad .

How hard is it to swap out the factory speedo?

Can I run an early version like the 160 mph one?

Any help would be great .

Angry I fixed it!

Yes by breaking the driveshaft .

A full throttle upshift into 3rd, broke it.

It took out the exhaust, beat the tunnel and floorpan, and also broke the yoke on the tranny .

I kept it on the road as it scared me silly.

If i,m really lucky that is all that broke.

I,m worried about the rearend and trans

I,ll post some pics later and what the extent of damage is total.

I,m sick and bummed but I walked away and I learned a thing or too.

Later

First off, the correct procedure is to use the trans drive and driven gears to get the ODOMETER to read correct.

IF (big IF) the speedometer then also reads correct--you're done.

If not, then you send the speedo/odometer in to a service place for calibration.

Once again--the gears in/near the transmission are for getting the ODOMETER correct.

Thinking the gears in/near the transmission are for setting the speedometer is an EXTREMELY common mistake.
