1972 D98 Stripe Question - Which one is correct
I'm putting my 1972 Lemans Sport back together and had a quick question.
The build sheet says it came with the D98 stripe option. When I got the car it had been repainted and they left the stripes off the car but I could see a couple of pieces inside the front fender where it met the door. The pieces I saw looked like they were the version w/the 9 lines but when I search for D98, most people have pics with the solid stripe (Like a LeMans GT) Any idea which one is right D98 version on Phoenix Graphic Site http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/gm/7172l.htm 9 Stripe Version from their site http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/gm/1972l9s.htm Thanks for your input. |

I believe they used the D98 code for both stripes. My GTO has the D98 option too and is the multiple lines stripe. If you see evidence of the multi line stripe, I'd go with that one.

Mine is supposed to have this one, but I'm not sure if I like it so I didn't put it back on when the car got painted in the 90's.
Stripes Vinyl (code 614)

If your car has the standard Lemans(chrome bumper) if would have the sword type like a Lemans GT.If car has the Endura Styling Option(GTO nose) if would have the 9 stripe.

I think supcarbob is correct. If the car had Endura (and fender extractors) then the car got the 9-pinstripe version which goes above the body line. The GT sword stripe went below the body line and would interfere with the fender extractors.
And that convertible in the Accessories catalog is an Endura LeMans, I think. |

Hope this question isn't too o.t. but what color stripes could be had with the special order paint colors in 72? (e.g. Starlight Black, Arizona Gold) And were they dealer installed? In other words if a '72 Starlight Black GTO or GT were ordered what color would the stripes be?

Back in the day there was a '72 LeMans GT in Kodiak, AK. Gold with black stripe/interior. Beautiful car. Not a T041 car. 350/350. Sure wish..............
It had the 71/1/2 type like the one in the accesssory picture. Not the multiple striped one.
