Old Pontiac muscle owners, do you also own a late model GTO?
I'm curious who has a 04-06 along with an older Pontiac muscle car. The post about LS motors made me wonder this.
The 04-06 forums are pretty quiet. I bought an '06 last winter. Only thing wrong is I didn't buy one sooner! I'm impressed. |

I don't got one. But my observation is the real win is, whether Auto or Stick, the Overdrive is already there.
The fellas i talked with say the stock trans, driveshaft or rear (depending on what they are doing) will reveal as a weak link. Just like the old GTOs !! |

I've always admired them especially since they never sold them here...

I don't currently own an older GTO, but have owned many in the past. I sold my resto-moded 73 T/A in 2020, so I did own old, and new Pontiac muscle cars at the same time.
I have only owned one new car in my entire lifetime, my 2005 GTO. It was a leftover car that I purchased in Feb, 2006, and I have no plans at all to sell it. After 17 years of ownership, and 145,000 miles it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. Very minimal problems with the car since new, and it came with a 400 HP engine, I didn't have to modify the engine to get it to 400 HP, and it gets 20-21 MPG. I get many compliments from people that actually know what they're looking at ever since I bought it. Another impressive fact is that the auto, and stick, both will go 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, quarter in mid 13 seconds. It also has IRS so another upgrade over the old GTO live axle cars. As long as i have a drivers license, and assuming I can afford fuel, I'll keep driving it. Last year when premium fuel was over $5 a gallon, I didn't drive it very much............ |

Bought an 06/auto new, kept it for eight years. Loved it, but had to sell to make room for my 64 Lemans convertible project.
Ran 13.40's stock, and after modifying, ported heads, cam, stall, etc, it eventually ran 10.97@124 (naturally aspirated). Miss it sometimes.

Back around 2010 I had a 2005 GTO with an automatic as a daily driver. Put about 40,000 miles on it. It was a great car.
I had older Pontiacs at the time.

Not a GTO, but my wife does own a '13 C6, so we have some modern GM performance in the garage, along side my classic Pontiac muscle.
I've been on the lookout for either a nice G8 GT or even a good quality 3rd gen TA, which would get an LS.

Back in 2004 I had the money and desire to buy a new performance car ( instead of a practical car). Not many choices back then. The GTO fit the bill.
Drove it four years for three seasons everyday. Now shares "fun" occasionally nice weather duty along with my Firebird. It is now modded putting out 428 / 402 rwhp,/tq |

Love the stock rumble of mine. And the hit when you put it to the floor! So comfortable to drive too.

I almost pulled the trigger in 2005. My girlfriend said "why would you want that when you've got two REAL GTO's?" In the end, I couldn't get around the Honda Accord looks of the new platform, as good as it was.
Much respect for the late model GTO's and what Pontiac tried to do, though.

I wished I would have. They are great cars. Hard to find a nice one reasonable around here. Maybe in the future.

Came close to buying a new one at the end of the 2004 model year, but didn't have enough garage space to park it in the garage at the time with my other toy cars.
I have thought of trying to find a new one to add to the garage, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'm also thinking of a Solstice for a 'modern' classic. I know some people didn't like the styling of the 'new' GTO. But it was the natural evolution of the Pontiac 'A' body as in Australia back in the 60's, the Monaro was an 'A' body that looked very similar to all the GM 'A' bodies. 1967 |

If the right one popped up, I would be on it. Most of the factory colors don't do it for me, however.

I own the following: 1971 GTO, 1972 GTO, 1971 Lemans Sport, 2004 GTO, and 2006 GTO. My newer GTOs were bought new and the '04 currently has 108k miles with only three bolts having ever being removed from the engine itself. My '06 has 11k miles and original down to the tires. I daily drive the '04 and cannot seem to get tired of it. Yes the seat seams are split and the sunvisor is broken. But I have never kept a car for twenty years and this car is still amazing to me. These cars, along with my 2004 GMC Envoy 5.3 are what drove me to respect the LS engines so much. The cars drive great, ride good, and are dead nuts dependable. The a/c system hasn't been touched but still blows cold without any wierd noises from the compressor. At 108k, (or maybe I should say at twenty years old) there are some rubber bushings that will need replacing, and there is some differential whine that will need to be addressed. But for me, after owning a car for twenty years and only spending minimal dollars on repairs, I think these are pretty good cars that perform very well. IF YOU KEEP THEM STOCK! I also found that several factory assembly tasks were not performed correctly such as the proper positioning of the shock and sway bar bushings and the associated washers. In my opinion these mistakes led to complaints about handling and premature wear on certain parts. Either way, I LOVE these cars.

I am seeing that the owners of these cars speak positively. Any negatives?
My son is looking to buy one now. Let me know if anybody has one for sale. |
