Default drag radials

I have been using Mickey Thompson ET Street. 275/60/15. For years and love the tire. They're just about wore out, the new tire is the ET Street S/S. Or the Pro. Anyone using the S/S tire? Does it work as well as the old ET streets or should I but the Pro tire? Is the pro tire DOT approved? The tread is just a few straight groves in the tire.

The pro works better, but of course wears faster. It is an r compound. They still have the other et streets, I will be going for the pro, they work great. Not sure if they are dot though. I do not care if they are they are going on!!

Mickey thompson stopped making the et street. The new tire is the S/S which supposed to be as good. I'm not sure about that but that is the new tire we have to run in ultra street next year. I was told it is the same compound but with more grooves.

You guys are not allowed to run the R compound ones? Ultra has to be street legal not just a radial??

It's the more grooves I'm worried about. That means less contact area. My car doesn't have an optimized suspension. The current DRs work great. Looking at the Hoosier drag radial or the new Mickeys...S/S.

Friend of mine has over a 150 passes on his MT Pro radials. Still aren't completely wore. Just does a small burnout and he doesn't street drive it either.

For street driving, I've had good luck with the Nitto 555 Drag Radial, 265/60/15. I had Cooper Cobras on it before and couldn't keep the ass end under the car. It actually hooks up now, and is a totally different experience to drive. I haven't had it to the track since I put the drag radials on it, but I have made a few passes at my local airport. Was going 138mph at the 1500 foot mark (Mid point of 3000 foot runway). So they run good.

I do street drive mine. Not alot but every once in a while. I used to drive it around on 28x10.5 slicks. Not really worried about wet weather driving. I've had slicks on it and had to drive home. It's challenging.

I run 275 MT Pro's on my POS 500ish hp 455 TA. They took it from a burnout machine in the first three gears to bogging coming off at 3000 rpm. This car is totally stock suspension. They work really well IMO on a POS stock suspension stick car.

Street drive on M&H drag radials only (390/45R15). Pretty good.

No 275 ET Street R yet. According to MT's website the ET Street R is geared more toward the strip but can be street driven. It has very little tread compared to the SS. The Pro is DOT approved but it says not for street use. Hoosier says the same thing about the QTP and their DOT DR.

All the MT DRs from SS to Pro use the R2 compound. They still make a bias DOT in 28x10 size.

I would probably be better off with the S/S, if I was sure it would work as good as the old ones. I may end up with the Pro tire just to make sure I can hook it up.

I bought the Street R's and love them. I would say that they hook as well or better than the ET Street bias ply tires that I used to run.I've only been to the track once with them, but it did pull the wheels.

Whats pretty good? any comparison? I ask because they are on my "consideration list".

Scott,
in the 90's I ran 285/60 McCreary DOT dirt track tires. Late 90's they offered a soft compund. I ran pretty consistant in the 1.52-1.55 range at 3910 race weight. I did no better or worse on a borrowed set of MT 28x10 slicks. (which cost twice as much.)
American Racer makes these tires now and still relatively cheap. They're bias ply and mine worked best at 13-14 psi at the track.(needed rim screws)

Street/highway 19-20 lbs seemed best for ride/handling. Tried to beat a storm home one night and got caught in a downpour at 70mph... they did remarkablly well all things considered but did slow to 50 till rain let up. I tried my 1st set after watching my freinds dirt car at the track. Was stunned to see him and competitors hooking their big blocks up on dirt!(borrowed his tires after his friday race) I ran Hoosier Quick Time 295/60's prior to this and had never bettered a 1.60 60 ft.

ditto here.. I tried getting the pro bracket radials but waited over 3 months and finally gave up and went to the pro 275's. my 3800# lemans made 526/504ft, 4400 converter, 4.30 gear and it just dead hooks here on a no prep night launching at 3800 of the transbrake. no trick springs or anything, actually you can tell by the ride height in the video that since switching to the aluminum heads and glass hood, the stock springs are unsprung quite a bit. never mind the burnout, my lineloc quit so I had to do it old school.

p.s. I have driven about 100 miles on these this year and they behave just like the gen 2 275's with around 20 psi

the old ones are still out there but hard to find. every ultra car I have seen and the nmca radial cars took the new ones off and said they did not work as well yet but that may just be their cars and what they are set up for
jeff kinsler, im sure eric isn't running the old ones on the wagon for no reason.

Bruce I have a set of the M & H 390-45-15s on my car now, haven't been to the track yet but on the street they don't seem to fuss or ball up on the surface as much as my Hoosier's did.
So far I like them and the car seems quicker even when it spins.
I have a friend the runs a M & H radial on his 2005 Mustang and love's them, his car has been in the mid 8's.
