The cork gasket is for an earlier style oil pan. Usually the pan gasket comes with 3 different gaskets. 2 rubber and 1 cork. I have no idea what the plastic seal is. could to post picture?

I don’t think I would be wrong to say that 90% of use prefer to use the cork seal even when the pan we are using has the holes for the rubber seal.

The earlier rear main for the cork seal has the deep groove cut in and probably 50% of the height of the cork seal resides in that groove. If the rear main is the later flat style, I'd just use the correct rubber seal with the sails.

Always use a cork seal and a light coat of Ultra Black. Make sure to get the right thickness gasket. The rubber seal will split and leak like crazy! Clean first with brake clean, lacquer thinner, etc.

X2 on the above. I always use the cork seal on the seal with the tabs on it. Had much better results over the years with it.

Are you saying you use both seals together?

x3 on the cork seal even on pans made for the rubber. i had a leak that i thought was a rear main, turned out to be the early poor design 3 prong rubber seal that was leaking, re did the pan gasket using a standard felro gasket but used the cork gasket as MR P body explains here, been pretty much leak free for 7+ years now. the later 5 prong rubber U seal is better than teh eralier one but the cork is much better when installed properly.

Not together. Cork only. This has been talked to death on here. Do a search if you want more info.

I’m aware of that and agree the cork is better. But the way Gary H worded it wasn’t clear he was suggesting the cork in place of the rubber seal verses in conjunction with

Isn t that the answer .To not use the 3 tab black neoprene seal ..And just use the cork in its place ..

YES! See post #14.

It wouldn't make any sense to use the 3-tab seal in conjunction with anything if it splits right?

To me this is very similar to the SBC intake to block seals. Everyone figured out years ago to just put RTV there.

Here is the best way to seal the rear of the pan. Forget any type of rubber seal, they have a BAD habit of squishing out and starting a major oil leak. I cut a custom seal from a piece of 1/4" thick rubber impreganted cork material. It's available on-line.

Then just apply a dab of RTV to the ends, set the pan and not one drop of oil will every get past it.......
