This would be a great thing if it really worked but like everyone else I don't see how it could be 100% reliable and if not the makers would be sued out of business in a heartbeat. I just had my second Garmin go out on me and that technology is decades old now. I get about two years out of a damn Garmin GPS and that's it!

Hey look, something I'll never buy ever. It's like having an Alexa in your home, but now on your firearm.

I like mine dumb as chit. AKs that can be field stripped and rebuilt by 12yo insurgents in the sandbox, and ARs that go together like Legos. Glocks that are nothing more than some plastic with a few springs and a trigger assembly.

The only thing "smart" about this is the trail of money that will lead to certain individuals.

I won't ever get one. But, I can see that there could be a market for it. However, they are considerably more expensive than a conventional pistol.

To me, I think they are guns for non-gun people. Considering that there are somewhere around 400 million firearms in the US, the cases where a child gets their hands on a family gun and shoots someone are pretty rare. I'd venture too that most of those cases are situations of an overall bad environment in the home.

The things you need for firearms safety at home are good parents, well raised children, age appropriate proper exposure and training about firearms safety and safe storage. People have managed to do that for hundreds of years.

Yes, there are irresponsible, dysfunctional people out there that probably should not have guns. But are they gonna be the ones to fork over 2 grand for a smart gun? I doubt it.

... in agreement with most posters here. Not sure what their market would be except anti-gunners too scared to admit they have a gun and can afford the exorbitant price of things like this.

i also think the very small problem that the engineers use to validate a problem that needs to be solved is just an excuse to invent something that maybe Fed, State, local governments might make mandatory to get the money rolling.

Definitely NOT in my future.

Of course not, but thinking there is not a market for something like this is ignoring the trends.

Just wait, the next gun will be electric/battery powered. It won’t be practical or make any sense, but there will be greenies promoting them like crazy.

They will make rail guns before they make and sell these. A rail gun is fired using magnetics not powder I designed one when I was in college in electrical engineering along with an electro magnetic V8 retrofit, Then I quit engineering.

While I have no problem with the idea, execution with 100% reliability will likely be the issue! 99% is not good enough. Seeing how self driving cars still manage to crash and most tech I've been involved with is NOT 100% reliable.....consider me a skeptic.

I'm not pushing them just putting the concept out there The firearms I like have to take a 30 round clip. I put some down on one just to help the company going so my son keeps a job with them.

He has worked for Cooper Eaton in Milwaukee at a plant that made power line transformers, one of their plants in Ventura CA that made electronic connectors and wires for lot of things like fly by wire missiles ,underwater submersibles. Back to Milwaukee another Cooper Eaton plant making other electrical fixtures, a different Milwaukee company that made valves for everything from Starbucks to oil wells. Then Chicago for Illinois Tool Works injection mold plant that made plastic buckles for back packs,dog callars etc. Then LA a different company making Xray/radiation badges. Then one that made custom machined fuel lines for aerospace for NASA, Boeing, on on the Osprey.

One common denominator for the big companies they will not spend the money to maintain the manufacturing machines or even have extra conveyor belt rollers-then get upset when production quotas can not be met when they break down. Or when their purchasing agents do not buy enough materials to produce the quota.
