I got mine yesterday. Looks like a nicer prettier version of my old Tilton. But it already has holes drilled to reclock it-solenoid sticks out if not. Had to drill and tap the Tilton myself. Same one for almost 30 years on the 78 TA!

From what I understand these are made by Power master for MSD. They are good units.

When you reclock it the solenoid gets really tucked up near the block but also the motor spins closer and the one oil pan bolt that sticks out a little you have to notch the pan edge that sticks up.

I think you are right, they look identical.
Mine hit the solenoid headers and the motor just hit the edge of my aluminum oil pan so I re sold it a member.
This PowerMaster starter looks to have great header/pan clearance if my SCR starter give me any trouble.

It has a even larger motor, 3.4 HP than the MSD starters 3.0 HP. And 4.4 gear reduction.
Wish it had a pinion support though.
The RobbMc starter with its nose cone support is about the same money as the high end PowerMaster (Denso) but has a 2,2 HP motor and 4.4 gear reduction.
My SCR/Summit starter is a Mini Denso style with a 1.9 HP motor and 4.0 gear reduction and has always done me good. I think SCR became CVR at some point.

I put in some pics of the MSD Mini Hitachi starter so you can see where it might hit a thick pan rail.

I think I will go with a RobbMc with pinion support. They say its good for over 500ci and over 11-1 CR.

Denso style fits my car the best. I’m using a Powermaster XS 9510. It’s infinitely clockable so it fits great. I tried the Powermaster Ultra Torque 9410 and it was a bit too close to the headers/pan so I went with the 9510. I screen captured a few pictures.

I just replaced it a couple months ago so I will more than likely just turn around and sell the MSD unit I bought. It was such a great deal I couldn’t pass up, but realistically I won’t use it.

They are about the most compact of the bunch. Even with a 1.9 HP motor and 4.0 gear reduction they are rated to 18-1 CR.
