Question Ram Air IV????

http://www.ebay.com/itm/350948336648...6648&viewitem=

Ad says "Original Ram Air IV" engine, but it has closed hood scoops and a dual-snorkel standard air cleaner. Seller has no engine or head casting codes listed, so I submitted a question. I thought I knew a lot about GTO's, maybe not so much? Could you order a "Ram Air IV" engine, but not get the rest of the Ram Air package?

after reading his ad, I am saddened to learn of his rear end having palsy. is that what they are calling it now when the one side sags.

Sounds like a poorly informed seller. He thinks any 70 GTO with a 400 is automatically a Ram Air IV. Ram Air IV cars always came with the ram air system and A/C was not available.

Yep.

I wonder if the problem with some of these people is the way it's worded on the 'window sticker' and such.

They see the RAM AIR 4 and quit reading?

I doubt it is even a ram air 3 car. That palsy rear end must really move.

Well, no reply whatsover. I asked politely what the casting numbers were, didn't challenge his listing, just asked. Nothing. Nada.

Ebay Seller has no idea what his car is, it is a standard 350 horse plain jane 70 GTO with AC.

I wonder what's up with the high bidding on this car - I hope someone isn't thinking their buying a ram air IV. I traded email with the seller, told him it wasn't a ra IV. He didn't want to hear it - said I don't need to bid on it then.

I kinda like a low miles, original base 400/auto/ac/green GTO. But certainly not at that price.

Yep, that what I think as well.

I sent him an email as well telling him about his misrepresented car, but no response. I would think anyone who has the means to buy a RA IV car would at least have the smarts to know this isn't one of them.

Just saying that "455 HO" in 70 was on PHS and build sheets. But, on car was 455 CID and UPC coded as L75? Confusion I'd say?

Not sure what "HO" was meant for as it wasn't really defined.

Weird stuff like: That we call it the RA III Engine, and no where is it called that by Pontiac. But to add more confusion you could get RA on the L75 and on PHS listed as "Hood Air Inlet".

my PHS said, Hood Air Inlet HD/ for heavy duty

when I first got my PHS I saw that and didn't know what it meant. I asked multiple people to include the tech advisor for POCI. no one knew what it was, until I called Butler out in Cal. when we talked he said he had seen 2 in his time dealing with Pontiacs. this was back in the early 80's when PHS had just came out.

when I bought it, knew it was a GTO 1 of 40,000+ built, knew it was a 455 car 1 of 4,500+ built, knew it was a 4 speed 1400+ built, so I was happy with a free car (paid 125.00 for it, sold mag wheels and alum intake and Holley carb for 150.00.) really really happy when found out it was a ram air car.

I think I'll go for it just because it has a "clear washtoning baby title".
