Pics from an old Pontiac HP I believe, not all mine are marked. I like it, but thats me. It doesnt shake. I like the 80-81 Turbo hoods too.
Bill had GM install it on his own personal car.. I like it on a T/A.
Its sorta odd that NOBODY has copied his Original plan, and Idea....Never see one ...

Default original planned T/A hood

unfortunately someones bright idea early on in the public domain was more is better and we ended up with the Poncherllo Hood..it would have changed the stripe design possibly..I know there is a GM drawing of a T/A with a early design of the Formula hood..but I believe the car has a racing number on the hood

Jeff Denison from GM did a nice seminar at TA Nats, and showed some of the early design ideas for the 2nd gen TA at his speech.

It was conceived with the formula hood. White with 69 TA stripes, and all I have is a memory that it looked sharp!

Default Factory Ram Air And Non Ram Air

1971 Formula 455HO cars had the option to have open Ram Air hoods and functional air cleaners that sealed to the hood via rubber boots as an added cost option. Standard formula 455HO cars had a dual snorkel air cleaner with 2 fuctional heat risers on the underside similar to the Trans Am air cleaner base, just minus the two tabs to hold the scoop to it. I have an original 71 non-Ram Air Formula 455HO air cleaner if you want pictures-let me know. (looking for a 72 T/A air cleaner base to trade for it) All 1972 Formula 455 cars were HO's and had factory functional Ram Air hood and air cleaners required.
Congrats on the puchase. Beautiful car!

Expecting delivery here in about 3 hours. Snowy salty roads will prevent me from driving it but just happy to be getting it. Mike, I'll e mail or call you to arrange a hangout time with the boys.

Here is a picture of Mr. Bill Porters car with the new owners out for a rip. The good news its his son and his wife that are now the new proud owners.
Oh, the hood stays the same since he prefers it that way too.

Sean, big congrats on the new wheels and cant wait to see it!

Here's the drawing of the concept by Jeff Denison. Back when they used concept sketches...Thanks, Jeff!

It was very interesting to me when Jeff Dennisons article was published in the mid 90's,explaining that the 69 T/A was a "ramp up" model and was designed AFTER the 70 1/2 models.....

Then it all made sense......
