I did a very basic deal. Put a 30 amp fuse right off the alternator and ran 2 side by side 12 gauge wires (did not have enough 10 gauge) all the way along down the driver side of the frame rail, in that convoluted plastic wrap and to the main battery disconnect. Done.
This way the battery is cut off AND the alternator in one switch. Engine dies when off. No relays, nothing.
I don't have the big alternator though so it works. If I had a 100 amp, might not be a good idea.

Car craft had a question in July 2018 mag about adding battery disconnect to race car and recommended wiring alternator to run 4ga wire to positive side of battery to charge and meet shutoff requirement.
Thought funny I just asked question here and then read similar question in mag.
