I've blown off a few Frams from my newly built SD. I switched to the Mobile One M1 and never had a problem since, even with the high pressure I run. They run about 10 bucks, but are cheap insurance considering.

I agree with Steve the WIX or the NAPA gold are the same and the only ones I run.

Keep in mind that the K&N takes only 10psi to by-pass... and the HP-1 takes 20psi to bypass... Personaly I dont want ANY by-pass. But with only 10psi the K&N could be by-passing on every WOT pass you make...

Today I changed oil and used the HP2(ihave a case of them)in the SD street car.I am concerned as some of you said about Fram HP's problems so I cut open 2 old ones(don't ask) I had laying around they seemed oK inside. The media is about 6 feet long with a string around it. The top has larger holes than a regular NAPA gold.I took mine to the local NAPA store to compare.I'm going use the WIX number Steve gave for the racing WIX.The street car has the 80psi pump the race car has the 60psi pump.I would be curious to what psi everyone is running with what filter.

Within the last year, I collapsed a Fram filter for the second time (2 different motors), no more Fram's from here on out! Both failures were the same with no indication w/oil pressure, but when removed and veiwed from top, the inside was collapsed.

I know this may be a dumb question, but I hear everyone talking about blocking the bypass on the oil filter housing. I have never done this. How is it done and what do I need?

If you look at your housing (off the car) you will see a little tab holding back a spring and ball (I think). remove this and tap the passage for a pipe plug. Make sure you run good race type filters after you do this. This will filter your oil all the time so at high RPM you need a filter that flows good and can handle the pressure. ... Eric

Toilet paper filters-that would be the Frantz oil systems.LMAO That goes back quite a few years. Those things were supposed to work really well. Never change the oil-just add a qt of oil and a roll of a$$wipe.

Rex.....Yes, I did read it wrong. I think my mind skipped right over the word "oil" and picked up the "HP1" which is what confused me. Fram has a fuel filter called the HPG-1 and that is what I thought the original post was about. My bad....
