Default '62 421 Fender Emblem

I'm looking at a pair of these emblems. I notice a distinct difference in the look of the ones from our host and the ones at OPGI (as well as price! Lol). Wonder if anyone could tell me which are the more accurate of the 2, or any others that are the most original looking.
Thanks,
Tony

FYI '62s did not have them they are a '63 part. You see them on '62s and sometimes '61s but they were never installed on those cars by PMD.

Ok-good info John. By the way hope you're doing well. As you know, I'm going to put that 421 in my Tempest Custom. The 326 flags on the '64 Tempest are very similar to the early 421 flag emblems. I just noticed quite a difference in their look and was going for the original look. I know this isn't correct, but since it's going to be a "what if" SD Tempest I want it to look correct.
Thanks
Tony

I pulled both up and there are some minor differences, mostly in the painted details. Looks like the opgi emblem painted the 'flag' black and white whereas the Ames emblem is black and chrome. I don't have any more original emblems to compare with, but if I were have to make a bet, I would say the Ames emblem is more correct. Both look to be the low quality sand casting so I would go with the Ames emblem as it is quite a bit cheaper.

Jerry, I was thinking Ames would be the more correct one also. Just not sure. I compared too. Hopefully, someone who has an original set on their car will find the time to check and let me know.
Thanks

if you look around, they make the 64 V with 389 and 421 instead of just326...at least they did, ive seen the 389 very recently so i imagine they are still out there..i saw them on ebay..i dont know who makes them..

Tony we are fine I hope you and your family are too.

I didn't realize what you were doing. I am attaching a picture of one of the emblems on my car, which as I recall I got from Ames probably ten years ago. I have some old pitted originals around here somewhere and as I recall the Ames ones are just like them. The picture kind of makes the flag look to be black and white but it is black and chrome.
I would have to root around to find the originals and I've got a lot of junk so not really interested in doing that.

That's what I was talking about. The ones from OPGI are painted white in the flag instead of chrome. I thought the Ames looked more "authentic". Better price too! Lol.
Thanks John

Got my fender emblems from Ames today. It's gonna look bitchin on my '64 Tempest Custom 421 "what if" car. Thanks to all for input on the emblems.

Might decide to do the same with my 421-powered '64 Le Mans.

I'm still deciding whether or not to go with GTO or Le Mans badging. Either way, some 421 fender emblems would fit in nicely.

A good friend had a nicely done 421 convertible '64 GTO clone some years back and the 421 emblems really set it off.

I saw a blue '64 Tempest Custom convertible (in Hot Rod I think). The guy put a 421 in it and badged it with the early 421 fender emblems. I thought it looked sharp. He kept his a Tempest Custom. Funny thing is, Hot Rod doesn't even list Pontiac as a search option now! Yeeks. Bart, I would vote to keep it original, as the LeMans it was born as.

Bart, PLEASE do not add GTO emblems to a non-GTO.

Default Is it a 'real' GTO?

Guys, I respect your opinions but in the end it's my car. I personally don't care for the '64 Le Mans trim all that much, plus I have two very nice '64 GTO hoods and all the new GTO emblems sitting right here. I prefer the very simple standard Tempest trim over the Le Mans as well.

Below is the GTO I owned from 1989 through 2013, I campaigned it as a bracket race car it from '93 -'02.

It originally started life as a 326 Le Mans. The previous owner many, many moons ago (probably back in the '70s while the car was undergoing some collision repair) added the GTO hood and emblems sans the '6.5 Litre' fender badges which I ended up adding later on.

It still had the heart of a GTO even though it wasn't born that way.

I never misrepresented it.

My Le Mans convert WILL gain value as a GTO clone, not many folks are out searching for a Le Mans sorry to say. A nicely done '64 GTO clone brings good money and attracts more buyers, not that I ever plan on selling it. It's a pretty rough car with a solid body and chassis, so it's not like I'm taking a 'cherry' car and messing with it.

Well, you're absolutely right. It's your car and like the old saw "my house, my rules". I was just expressing an opinion. Judging by your past efforts, I'm sure it will be a beautiful car when it's done.

Looks exactly like the ones I bought from Ames thru EBay for $88 which included nuts and shipping. I think those were listed for $125. The funny thing was, it was cheaper for shipping to by from Ames thru EBay than to buy directly from our host.

My '64 Tempest didn't have the emblems installed by the dealer. Didn't have the 421 either. But it will have both.... soon enough! Lol
