Can you replace the rubber fiber part only or do you have to buy the complete assembly? I am concerned about the safety of rubber fiber part since it's original with my car.

Most of the rubber portions are made from sidewalls of tires, so as as per tire manufacturers recommendations, should they be replaced every 10 years ?.........

DSE (Detroit Speed and Engineering) also offers them. I have one. Very high quality, not a cheap China knockoff. You can also check with Borgenson, they make them as well. Not sure who actually makes the DSE units, could be Borgenson but I do not know.

On my 69 Firebird convertible I actually removed the rag joint all together and installed a stainless steel U-joint (Borgenson) and cut a stainless double D shaft to make up the difference in length so the steering is very responsive, absolutely no sloppiness or flex that a rag joint gives. DSE offers this as well but did not have what I needed back then so I made my own like for like. My original steering gear box is also (now) quick ratio at 2-1/4 turns lock to lock (Built by "Turn One" in Saginaw, Michigan).

Looking at the joint. I often wondered if conveyor belting would work(make your own). I might have asked this yrs ago. Cant remember the responses.

I'm running a 57 year old OEM unit seems to work fine. Never heard of one failing

Took me less than a minute to find the answer:

My post #4 was an attempt at humor, obviously you didn't recognize it as such.

A quick search on PY has 2 results from the past;

I spent a lot of time searching online for the keyword "rag joint." Obviously I was using the wrong key words, Steering Coupling Disc Kit was the right combination to use. I didn't expect a hyperlink; a simple yes or no to post 3 is all I expected.. Thank you for going above and beyond. Sorry I am not as knowledgeable in proper steering component terminology as all of you are.

FWIW, I searched rag joint replacement, not steering coupler.

Here's my google search:
